Fulgrim the Phoenician from Forge World – painted

Fulgrim the Phoenician, was the primarch of the Emperor’s Children legion of Space Marines. He played an important role during the Horus Heresy and eventually became a daemon prince of Chaos. This model depicts him in his more loyal version.

Some time ago I got a request to paint Fulgrim the Phoenixian. A part of the request was to include two modifications to the ForgeWorld model – change his head and his sword. The idea was that the customer didn’t want him to look like a crazed madman, but more like a confident swordsman. One that is worthy of wielding the Emperor’s sword.

We looked up some reference images depictumg Fulgrim the Phoenician, and I must say there were many interesting images, but we needed one that would look good in the smaller scale, so we went with this image from

“Roses of Fulgrim” by Nephilim Amriagiath

The face had features which could look good enough even on a small-scale model, here’s a closeup of the face from the artwork:

We designed and sculpted the custom head sculpted. And after 3d-printing it, we used it for the model, just like the requested sword. The base is removable, which allows to use the model both for gaming and for display purposes.

Working on this model was really enjoyable, especially because we managed to collaborate on it with Kacpero. I hope we get a chance to do something interesting together again! 🙂

I hope you like my version of Fulgrim. 🙂 And if you would like us to paint something for you, just send us a message with your request. 🙂

Constantin Valdor (in Shadowkeepers colors)

I was about to paint one Constantin Valdor for an Adeptus Custodes army, in the very usual colors. But then for very down-to-earth reasons the project had to be postponed. And unexpectedly I got a chance to paint another Valdor, but in a totally different color scheme!

My version of Constantin Valdor

This time I was asked to replace the usual golden armor with the black-and-red colors of the Shadowkeepers. And how cool it was!

After researching a bit about Shadowkeepers, I decided to use two kinds and sources of light on the model. Red light coming from below, represented the demonic enemies. Valdor being in charge of troops keeping them in check would counter them with purity of Adeptus Custodes. This is the blue light coming from inside the collar of his armor and shining onto his face. This would also match some details of his armor and the force halberd.

Both for gaming and for display

The model itself came with a removable scenic base, which I placed on a plinth. This made the model suitable for display but also usable for gaming.

I think the black background shows the light effects better. But to show how the model looks separated from its scenic base I used white background. Otherwise it would be difficult to see the outlines of both parts.

The Abaddon connection

The model was featured in Warhammer Community Hobby Roundup, which makes me very happy. Somebody pointed out that he looks much like Abaddon. And you know what? They were right! I hadn’t realized it before, but if you follow the link above you will see the comparison of both models. Totally unintentional, but funny anyway! 🙂

I enjoyed painting this model very much, and would gladly paint something just as interesting. So if you have any models you would like me to paint for you, contact us and we’ll try to arrange it! 🙂

Land Raider Proteus for Salamanders Space Marines

So the Land Raider Proteus is done now, so you can see the finished effect. 🙂

I was a bit afraid if the weathering didn’t make it too “orky”, but in the end I like it the way it is, and as long as its new owner is happy – so am I.

You can see the model in its in-progress state in this post.  I like the way the burned exhausts and guns look. It was an interesting effect to work on.

Here are all the photos. Enjoy! 🙂

Roboute Guilliman, the Ultramarines primarch

Actually I finished the model of Roboute Guilliman, primarch of the Ultramarines, some time ago but didn’t manage to share the photos until now.

You could have seen the earlier stages of painting in my WIP posts. Some of you may even have wondered if the model was ever going to be finished.

Well, I finished the model some time ago, then I waited for the plinth and for the plaque. Such an important character  deserves a decent base after all. 🙂

The model was very enjoyable to paint thanks to good quality of the sculpt and casting. This tends to be my usual experience with Forge World models anyway. It is not the most impressive or memorable of all primarch models, but still I wanted to give him a very commanding presence, and some individual personality while not straying too far from the original Ultramarines imagery.

More photos of my Roboute Guilliman

There are so many great interpretations of this character already done, The only way for me to go was to make him a bit different, mine. Well, here he is for your viewing pleasure. 🙂
