Salamanders Space Marine bust

Do you remember the Space Marines busts we made? Now it’s time to post another one of them, a Salamanders Space Marine bust.

I loved those busts for how they allow to have fun painting and try different approaches. Not being limited by the restrictions usually applied to commissioned projects.

This time I decided to paint my Salamanders Space Marine bust in a more cartoony style. My inspiration was modern superhero comics with their bright colors, strong contrasts and gradients.

I had a lot of fun, playing with different light sources and testures. I didn’t even try to paint in a realistic way. Not being an expert in Warhammer 40K lore, I learned a bit about Salamanders from the Lexicanum website. It was just enough to give me some inspiration for this model.

If you want to see more photos of my Salamanders Space Marine bust, here they are

And if you would like to have this bust or to commission something cool painted by me or other members of our team, why don’t you simply contact us and tell us about your idea. We will get in touch to discuss the project with you.
In the meantime, I still have some ideas for more Space Marines busts, but it’s not easy to squeeze a hobby project into my schedule.

Lesza (Lesha), the haunted one

Who is Lesza? We know Leszy (usually translated to Leshy or Woodkin, but also Leshen in the Witcher 3 game) a demon of the woods from Slavic mythology. Lesza is supposed to be its female counterpart, and is also depicted as a bust from the Slavic Legends line by Ignis Art.

Lesza in her more haunted depiction

These are some beautiful busts with only one problem – the box arts are spectacular! Trying to go for the most obvious solutions is a guaranteed failure. I loved the model and wanted to paint it, so my only choice was to find my own interpretation of the subject.

I decided to try something completely different, more like some scary version of Lesza. Instead of being the spirit of the forest, I went for darker themes. So I included some moths, cobwebs and skulls. I also painted some haunting shapes forming on (or under) her skin, and cold candle light.

Now I can only hope you like what I’ve done with my Lesza. 🙂
Some of you keep asking me if she is available for sale. Unfortunately she is not, but it’s not a problem. If you have a model you would like me to paint, feel free to contact me about it. 🙂 And if it is one of the Slavic Legends models, I won’t mind it at all. 😀

Ithur, the Spider Queen

I painted the bust of Ithur the Spider Queen for the “Kingdom of Insects” Kickstarter campaing by Karol Rudyk Art. The original concept art was prepared by Fran Garcés, and Alexander Belov of PREYcollectionSTUDIO is the author of the sculpt.

It’s a very interesting model for sure! And I liked the concept of the sculpt, which is pretty much alien, scary and disturbing.

While the original concept was interesting , I had my own idea. After browsing Pinterest for some inspiration, I wanted my Ithur the Spider Queen to connect the alien insect form with the human. That is why I used both organic fleshy colors and alien carapace-like painting in my interpretation of this model.

While I know that my interpretation of this model differs from the concept art of the Spider Queen, but I think it was still worth it. I managed to capture my own interpretation of this character and had a lot of fun painting her.

If you ever get a chance to paint your own version of the Spider Queen, don’t let the number of all the parts of this model discourage you. There’s a bit of assembly involved. But as you can see from my photos, the shape of this bust is pretty complex.

And if you paint your own versions, please let me know. I will be happy to see what you’ve done with this great bust. 🙂

Blood Angels Space Marine Bust

Some time ago we had some fun with the fan-art primaris space marine busts that we made and gave to our team members to paint in any way they wanted. I decided I would like to customize mine a bit and paint him as a Blood Angels Space Marine bust.

Why the Blood Angels Space Marine bust?

Well, because it’s red. And I wanted to paint something red. I also wanted to paint it in a different way, unlike it’s usually painted. I wanted to give some depth and texture to the armor. Making it glow with some inner light. Maybe plasma-like, maybe lightning-like. It didn’t really mater much, as I was more interested in the visuals than the background lore.

Blood Angels Space Marine bust

Not that I wanted to ignore the lore completely (as long as I could connect it to the concept I had). 😀

Blood Angels lore?

I am not a Warhammer 40K player, but I do my bit of research before painting my models, and this Blood Angels Space Marine bust was no different. I wanted to stick to the official insignia, official colors and overall imagery. The blood drops were too tempting and the colors were what I wanted anyway. And metallics – not the NMM that everybody seems to want but some good old real metallics. I hope you like how they turned out. 🙂

The model is a bit modified version of the basic bust, having some custom parts like the chapter-specific helmet, extra purity seals, and also uses some more parts than Benathai used in his Ultramarine bust.

I wasn’t documenting the process of painting the model in detail, as it was only a fun project. But if you want to see some WIP shots, there are some photos and (I think) three videos in my Instagram gallery.

Enjoy, and if you have any questions – we’ll be happy to answer them. 🙂

The Dreamer, bust inspired by Japanese Decora

I call her “The Dreamer”.
While it is not the newest work, I think I did her in 2019 but I realize I haven’t shared her with you! I made her for myself, because I found an occasion to share my love for the Japanese Decora style of Tokyo fashion.

The bust is based on a 12″ full-figure statue from Mixed Dimensions – the Collection, scuplted by Gilman Louie, cast by Benathai and converted by me. This is a unique figure, not available elsewhere.
