Fulgrim in his demonic form may be one of the most widely duscussed Warhammer 40.000 models. Some love it, some hate it, but this daemonic primarch of the Emperor’s Children is one of the most recognizable models on the battlefields of the 41st millennium.

You asked how our artist Marta how she painted her version, and here is the information, directly from the artist.

Painting Fulgrim’s serpentine body

As for Fulgrim’s serpentine body, for the base color on the upper surfaces Marta used Vallejo Model Color Dark Sea Blue.

The scales, as well as the side of the serpentine body, were painted with an addition of Vallejo Game Color Verdigris to the base color. The rest of the inner body, as well as the scales in the middle, were done in sequence with:

• Vallejo Game Color Hexed Lichen
• AK 3rd Gen Magenta
• AK 3rd Gen Pastel Violet

Painting Fulgrim’s wings and more

The wings were painted black with AK 3rd Gen Black.

The arms and all veins used the same colors as the body, which is Vallejo Game Color Hexed Lichen and a drybrush on the protruding bone elements with Vallejo Game Color Verdigris mixed beforehand with white.

For the body, she used the base color of Citadel Layer Dechala Lilac. For the shadows she added some Citadel Shade Reikland Fleshshade to the paint. She painted highlights with the base color mixed with Vallejo Game Color Heavy Warm Grey. The veins were added by mixing blue paint into the base skin color.

The tail

The crab-like pincers on the tail were done with Citadel Contrast Gryph-hound Orange + highlights of AK 3rd Gen Ice Yellow.

The hair was done with Citadel Contrast Apothecary White and then white highlights and Citadel Shade Nuln Oil shading.

The gold

Marta painted golden parts of Fulgrim’s equipment with:

• Citadel Layer Retributor Armour
• Citadel Shade Reikland Fleshshade
• Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade where more contrast was needed (instead of black or brown outlines)
• AK 3rd Gen Ice Yellow for edge highlights

On the lower parts, the following was added on top of the above colors:

• Scale75 Metal N’ Metal Alchemy Moonstone Alchemy (although Marta drybrushed it, applying it as a thin layer might work even better).
