Hi guys thanks for the kind words. Maybe some additional weathering (paint chipping) might look good but I don't want to put more time in it. I'm just going to finish the weapons and that's it. I painted the bases yesterday, also nice and simple.

When I started working on the weapons my motivation for this project suddenly plummeted. I hate painting SF weapons and of all these weapons, Space Marine guns are the worst :)

So currently my only motivation to finish this is that I can start on my next project :D

I will enter these figures in the painting competition over at Bolter And Chainsword forums, so they don't have to be perfect. They should simply look good on a picture.

For me there is no need for weathering, `cuz they look a bit weathered already.
Good luck with the in the competition! Share us later with results :-)

Re: Corvus' WIPs

Post by Corvus »

I've updated the title of this thread to "Corvus' WIPs' instead of "Deathwing Terminator WIP" because I think it's cleaner to have one single WIP thread :)

Anyway I'm working on a test mini, following the discussion I had here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6238

Basically I wanted to quickly test out an alternative way to paint metallics. I browsed my "abandonded projects drawer" (yes, I really have such a thing :)) and discovered a set of Cynwall Akhamial (those little elven constructs), all cleaned and based. I quickly primed them and picked one of them to be the test subject.

For the basecoat I made a mix of about 1 : 3 Khaki Grey : Chainmail. I added some Burnt Cadmium and Black to the mix to create the shading. I did this quickly using only 2 shading steps. For the highlights I mixed in Ivory and some Mithril Silver (3 highlighting steps). I guess highlighting is the tricky part. It's quite difficult to retain the metallic effect of the paint and at the same time try to make it lighter by mixing in regular paint. But in the end I think the experiment was a small success. Although I think shading can be better applied using regular paints, but then very thin. And I should also make the basecoat darker, to avoid trouble creating a highlight mix later on.

So far I did the armor, but I plan to finish this figure soon. I hope you like it!

so far it's looking pretty natural, and pretty eyecatching I think.

Maybe it is just me but that last fig looks like bare metal to me.

The bases however are cool for sure.

to me Gerrie's version looks like metal washed with some greasy wash. So yes, it looks like metal to me.
and no, I didn't remember the little guys :(

nice bases though. maybe I should paint bases? they look like something I could be able to finish
