The skin tone is looking much healthier in this version than previously, and while normally I'd say Elves should be paler skinned, this guy looks like one of the old Wardancers so being tanned makes sense. However, while the eyes are a better quality than previously they're now huge. You could counter this one of two ways: 1) make sure he's got a decent amount of warpaint around the eyes, perhaps even an Adam Ant band 2) cut the skin tone in further to reduce the size of the eyes so that they're closer to the size in your previous attempt.

Eye shape and pupil direction/co-ordination are spot on though and considering how little time you've spent painting miniatures, I'm impressed thus far.

Good idea about the war paint, I hadn't even considered using any ;)

I thought I'd show you the Assasin I'm painting next as it's got very little skintone for me to mess up

Should be a nice subtle piece this one, I really hope I can get the blending done right on the cloak and boots.

Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again

Don't forget, Assassins needn't be black unless they're sneaky midnight Ninja types.

I'm planning on some deep greens and earthy brown for now with maybe a dark blue cloak, I feel like he could be seen in daylight without anyone saying "look there goes an assasin, see his clothes are all dark" ;)

Sounds like an excellent plan. I presume that you're up at this late hour on a miniatures forum because, like me, you've been attacked by the Insomnia Monster?

Well I was trying to stay up last night to get rd of the previous nights insomnia bout but we failed and went to bed, 4 hours later and we're both up again and guess who's been playing on my keyboard while I was asleep.. yes you guessed right... One of these days the Insomnia will go away and I'll be able to lead a perfectly normal life...

Who am I trying to kid here

While I'm awake and not too sleepy I thought I'd show you this figure I painted over 10 years ago with Humbrol paints as I didn't know any better back then  I think I've got a really bad picture of the actual painted model somewhere on one of my many backyup CD's but it's going to take way too long to find it. For now just assume it's a really crap paintjob that I did following a guide in a Games workshop handout, I was actually really chuffed I had the exact same model that the guide used as well :D

Anyway I stripped him with all sorts of stuff from Acetone to Hammerite Paint Stripper and I thought I did a descent job until I looked at these last two pictures DOH!

You can see some paint still on the band of his hat, it was painted yellow.

And I can't believe how much paint is still left on his staff, the brown bits near the headpiece are the worst bits.

Oh well I guess it's back into the paint stripper for him

I really like that Wizard model. Curious to see what you'll do with him painting wise. :)

Well here's the first step in a nice assasin figure, I think I might have finished his face (comments not withstanding) ;)

You have no idea just how SMALL this guy is to work on hence my new avitar (I need these just to see that he has a face ), actually, now I think about it, I think you are the only people in the world that might know how difficult this was

Once again any comments welcome :D
