just for washes on diorama.....just buy 3 colors candle black, burnt umber, sienna and rectified terenthine to dilute them
and apply them like acrylics washes...it's exactly the same but oil pigment are stronger and greasy...ideal to immitate mud or crap...give more live to a base
ink washes could be use but are to clean and shiny

But remember that breaking tonality is always nice, so atouch of purple would be ok:)Nameless wrote:As I've written before, brown&green seems to be the best choice.
@Stefan - oils? Oh no, I first have to learn to use acryllics properly
And ofcourse ink washes have to be VERY!!! diluted beacouse otherwise they will be shiny.

I personally don't like to use inks on bases. Because I find that even when you dillute them a lot, if you add a couple washes of them the build up will turn shiny anyway. That's why i prefer paints.
it's all personal opinion though
I might have to give oils a try too btw ^^

nothing really to show yet, but I painted some base colours on gargantoid.
Carapace is almost ready (most of it will be hidden under a tower anyway). Fur on the body - only black base, brown highlight and black wash. Legs - only base colours.

Only the cross pattern was copied by me from a real spider. Colour scheme was chosen deliberately, as it is fantasy mutant spider after all
imho those colours work well together, and it is more important for me than realism.
What do you think about legs folks? Shall I leave them black (just with subtle grey highlights) or paint them as the abdomen?
