Review: Verthandi Burning Ice

Post by Ana »

Hello,

I prepared this review for my blog, so I think it should also be posted here. Without any more delays, here it goes:

As you're already here, take a look at Verthandi Burning Ice from Andrea Miniatures. This is my review of the model but I hope that photos will allow you to have your own opinions about it.

That's what the mini looked like after unboxing:

The model is in 54mm scale, and because I am not used to this scale it seemed to be of monstrous size to me ;) Just like the character from the "Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman" movie.

I got her in order to get her painted, so I was happy with the first impression that the casting quality of the model was good.

Let me show you where I found mold lines (they were placed in such a way that removing them without damaging the sculpt shouldn't be difficult to you).

I was surprised to see how well the model fit in the base - no sanding, no need for any tweaking:

Oh, a small cavity on the arm:

The surface was porous on some parts:

Fortunately polishing with steel wool made it smooth enough...

... And what couldn't be done with the steel wool, was filled with Surfacer.

Unfortunately the cavities on her chest were too deep and I had to fill them with modelling putty. :( It's a pity because this place is one of the most crucial attention catchers.

Summary:

I expected perfectionistic approach from Andrea Miniatures and this assumption may have made my opinion unjust. I am afraid that many people wouldn't be able to deal with such a cavity as I found on her chest and this might discourage them from painting. One could solve the problem by adding hair to her chest or burnt skin ;) - this could be the version for those who are afraid to work with putty.

Let us hope it was only my bad luck and your miniatures will be cast better.

And maybe your experiences are better? Share them with others here, please! I wouldn't hate to discourage people from buying this model, because after all the preparations painting was very enjoyable - I love the ambience of the model!
