Arctica's Blood Ravens

Post by arctica »

Ok, so after being lazy for a while and being on holiday i've decided to try and push my goal and new year's resolution of finishing off my army painting. I had a load of marine stuff sitting in my spare boxes and so i decided to form a blood raven army with the existing models i had (using blood angel rules). I was inspired by Nameless's eldar looking at such a group together looked very cool, so i wanted to produce a larger tale but of slightly lower quality compared with my ork pirates :bonk: . It also gave me the chance to try out the army painter sprays (after seeing Panda's nice smooth results) i actually primed the models black then sprayed the red ontop of the models lightly to create some extra shading to save myself some time, since these are for tabletop use.

The force itself consists of:
1 Commander,
1 Chaplain,
2 Apothecaries
5 Terminators,
10 Death company
7 Scouts,
5 Assault Marines
2 Dreadnoughts
6 Devastators

Im hoping to get through these guys pretty quickly but i first have to finish off my first commission piece and some other army models such as world eater beserkers and some tyranids for my friend. I think this should last me a few months. :boohoo:

Arctica, your previous tale was a small group of orks, now it's a larger group of marines. will the next tale be a full 40k army? and the next - a full marine chapter? ;)
Go challenge Gareth

Well as the groups of models gets larger the quality of paint dips in my case  , i dont have the concentration, motivation or the models to do a full 40k chapter etc. plus i think Gareth would still beat me for speed and quantity of models. Actually in Jan 2010 i made a new years resolution to attempt to finish the bulk of the models i have for armies, this is because i want to have some playable armies when i game once a year with my friends and also i want to concentrate on display and competition pieces once i have finished these armies. I am one of these people who feel a pressure or something in the back of my mind when i know i have something to do which i keep putting off, so i decided once and for all to try and just get these painted to at least a tabletop standard. Saying this after i finish all these world eaters, nids and blood ravens i still have eldar to go lol so im still fighting this never ending battle but i will feel much better about myself for finishing so many models.

Well after a bit of being lazy i managed to paint up 5 assault marines and the captain model. The quality isn't as good as some of the other tales but i think it is acceptable for tabletop standard. I think my photography skills are getting worse as i do more ! I will never get rid of this gremlin until i decide to invest in some decent lighting and setup a small area for it.

Got some freehand work to do on the captain's cloak but i will get around to that when i decide what i want to put on it :D

Lightning and img quality is very bad, but painted models look very nice. How much time did you spend to paint them? ;)

the photo quality has dropped dramatically :) I like the captain, but why has he got a bigger base?
miniatures painted:
2011 - 83, 2012 - 38, 2013 - 45, 2014 - 56, 2015 - 95, 2016 - 106, 2017 - 22

I apologise again for the crappy photos, i need to sort that out.

Each marine took me about 3-4 hours each, the captain took me about 10-12 hours in total over 3-4 days. He has a bigger base cos i had a larger one spare in my box but didnt have any standard base sizes here in AD, so i ended up using this one plus he's actually a little top heavy so a bigger base helped him balance as i used old metal jump packs.
