i'm wanting to paint a glowing powerfist on a miniature im doing but i'm struggling to get it to look right.
i know i've seen some good ons about but cant find any examples now i want them
can anyone shed some light on the subject? (excuse the pun)
glowing powerfist, how to?
Re: glowing powerfist, how to?
Well kinda sounds like you're going for an OSL effect with the fist as the source itself, i would recommend a dark model to start with and a dark coloured base to really help emphasise the fist itself. That would be my initial thought and then place highlights from the fist around the exposed area of the model.

yep, the more obvious you want the glow to be, the darker model you should paint. remember about strong shadows from strong light.

I would say it depend on the predominant color of your miniature.
You can either do classic OSL starting from light blue (almost white actually) core and do a series of transition toward you base color.
The way I did it once was almost a reverse highlighting. You put light blue in fist's recesses and then blend it to you base color on flat parts of the fist in such a way that fist is generally dark but glowing from inside. IN my case it worked because the miniature was a dark templar, so between black and bright blue I had sufficient contrast to pull it off. I am not sure how well that second way will work, say, on a red or a blue marine.
