RE: Arthur C. Clarke
Also, Childhood's End, and Beyond the Fall of Night. He was one of the old school hard science fiction writers from the era when sci-fi was about exploring new concepts and the human condition instead of just being soap operas in space.
RE: Arthur C. Clarke
soap operas in space rock as long as they are called BSG
as for clarke he wrote over 90 books iirc. and since he was a scientist (nominated for nobel price for laying out satelite comunications before they even could be nearly realised technologically, geostationary orbit at 36.000km named clarke orbit, etc.) the boks are indeed "hard sci-fi".
I almost liked his later books with Stephen Baxter a bit more than the old ones...but not by a lot xP
