ANIMOSITY IN PLAYER SOCIETY

Post by Slawek »

As you know this forum is quaite friendly. But as I notice there is a lot of animosies between players. I would like to make a list of such things

In Poland we have something like that
*fluffy players vs Powergaming one
*Confrontation vs GW (I just read on some Confrontation dedicted forum that some of the Confrontation players attack a converted mini from Confrontation to Wh40k - giving her a 1 note on CMON). Thay talk a little like that - Is a blasphemy to convert that mini, person that do that is retardet, stupid etc.. What is strange I never here anything like that from WH40k palyer
*painter studios conflict (but I think you know better than me about that)
*local animosies (capital vs rest of Poland - uninteresting one)

What else? Who doesn't like who?

Well when I played WHFB... it were the guys who played with HE who allways were hated upon. And it's still that way. (it has something to do with lore of the heavens and mages hiding in the bushes ;) )
And when I played with my nurgle army I got a lot of "hate" from the tzeentch players. (and that were quite a few) Especially when I had beat them

I don't really know other examples :)

BTW: The example you gave of the converted confrontation mini, pisses me off. I hate it when people get that kind of treatment when they mix different mini companies. I think it's childish.

This kind of behaviour is quite common among kids, whatever their interests are. It's some kind of we-against-them attitude that makes them feel stronger about themselves through belonging to a certain "group". By demeaning other groups they strengthen their own sense of identity. That kind of attitude is common within the military and other quite strict organisations, as well...

:( It piss me off too... More freedom for players. If a tournament is not sponsored by miniproducent, everybody should have a freedom of choice as long as WYSIWYG is not a problem...

don't worry this kind of childish behavior is very typical. what worries me is that it's not just kids that do it around here, it's also the older dudes. I have played so many games at tournaments against 40 year old guys who start cheating, nitpicking, questioning rules, you name it ... just because they all lose against me. It's really sad to see at times.

I think that's why I only play 3 tournaments each year. After that I'm just so exhausted and bored of the game because of all those idiots playing it.

conflicts between painting studios are the most fu*ked up for me...
I REALLY hate false biddings, giving 1s on cmon the breaking reputation of others by sending rumors and such sh*t :x

several days ago on one of polish forums a guy said that one of painting studios takes a lot of cash for painting and he knows it because he knows one of 6 guys working there...
next post was from a painter from mentined studio - it turned out there were always only 3 painters and they don't take cash from people who would like to sell minis by them because they sell only self-painted minis... :?

Wasn't aware of the Studio animosities! Things like this make me upset and I think it's just plain sad!

Back in the days (okay even now...) we also always joked about HE's and WE's as pancy gits! But it was alway harmless fun and the players on the other side always took the piss out of us too! :D

So maybe its a polish speciality! Something we call here a "polish hell". Uninterested jealousy...

It seems to be that just by human nature, there will be conflicts. People are always going to have opinions and that they will not agree on things. The biggest fault with anyone, and I have been guilty of this too, is how those differences are presented to the general public and the size of the ego behind them. Many especially on this and another forum I belong too present things in well meaning and constructive ways. Others though as has been stated above, just try to trash anyone else that doesn't agree with thier opinion.

Not a lot will change until basic human nature is changed and I don't see that happening in the near future. :?

I think it has something to do with Polish nature, too.
Eg. I haven't heard anything about animosities between painting groups in other countries.

HE were always laughed at and that also used the HE plaeyes not too popular/liked. Silly, but true :(

As for the powergaming/fluff this is the most interenational and common (and neverending) dispute. I just get the impression that eg. in the US it's powergaming which is considered the bad thing, while here it's considered ther natural way of gaming and going for 'fluff' seems to be considered the wrong way of understanding gaming...

And you know, Ritual, it's sad but the persons involved are not teenagers :(
