Khorne wip

Post by Lonewolf »

Been a 40k player for a while now and i've been playing IG for about 5 years now so it's time for a change.
Considering my fondness for my Beloved Tamiya clear red and my need for an assaulty army it's no wonder i've been feeling the call of Khorne.
now i'm not a fan of GW's orange/red bright khorne marines so i want to do something a little more dark and gritty but keeping the Khornate red/brass/black colours, especially as i'm planning a pure World Eaters Force.
anyway here's a wip/colour test for what im thinking...

I think You're going in correct direction: f*ck pity hooomies, glory for blessed warriors of khorne! "metal:
hope to see painted model soon - good idea to switch cute official gw scheme into dark and dirty tones

nice one

at your place i would make brighter highlight on the topof the helmet, to make the head brighter of the rest of the mini and creat a focal point

the yellow of the eyes don't suit, the same chromatic schem is not too correct use some complementary color of red :green but too classic
a turquoise could be better (as you used dark blue to shade the red is could suit)

the eyes have been brightened a bit since and the chains had to have some weathering, but i know what you mean about green.
the only reason i didn't do them green in the first place is its a bit cliche (sp?) but i'm starting to think it was for a good reason.
i'll be doing a bit tonight (mainly assembling stuff) but i'll think i'll change em to green to see how it looks
i was thinking a jade green though (and there's no blue  black undercoat, vmc cadmium maroon, vmc burnt cadmium red, gory red, black/cadmium maroon washes)
i agree i have to brighten the face a touch.

I have a World Eaters army too, it was painted about 6 years ago. Looking at your picture, I think mine ought to be repainted :(

Very nice armour, it is still red, but different. I like the colour of the belt - are you going to use it on more additions - grenades, holsters etc?

Show us more!!!

damn, another interesting post which escaped my attention!
I like it a lot, Ian. It's different than most World Eaters we usually see...

It has something from your style but is different in some way.

I think adding some deep blue in deepest shadows might be interesting. And even if green eyes/visors are a kind of a cliche, they seem to be the best choice anyway. Maybe that's why they became so popular?

The chain needs some glazes because it looks boring (compared to the rest of the mini) now. But I guess you must already know it :curtain:

GREAT SHADING!!!!

cheers for the comments guys
this guy is really just a colour test so might not actually make it into being a fully assembled marine (just depends how close the rest match up to him )
thats why he's pretty bare (no grenades etc)
i've assembled the full squad of 8 now including a converted aspiring champion and their all undercoated.
i've started painting my champion first to give me some inspiration.
i'll post a wip picture of him later when i get a min.
funny thing is i've always hated painting power armour but at the min i'm quite enjoying these guys (we'll see how long it lasts after a couple)
also i'm toying with the idea of painting these guys individually to do a better job on them but that might change when it comes to the rank and file though i still want to paint them up to a pretty high standard as they are my 3rd army and i want them as something of a showcase as theyre more a labour of love than a tourney army so speeds not that important
