mordheim wizard - update #1

Post by Mordred »

heya,

another wip from me. I tried a limited, muted pallette for this one and I only used vallejo model colours. after looking at these pics I have decided that the skulls with candles on them are totally stupid and I'm gonna cut them off. I should put more thought in my models before I start painting them :D

back view

obviously, the black parts are wip and still have to be painted. any suggestions? lemme know please.

imo Your wizard looks good; nine darktones;
but I'd paint the warpstone in more glowing / more bright fashion - I think warpstone should shine ;)

Looks great, I'd leave the skull/candles on for the moment and see what the model looks like when it's completely painted. You can always get them off later, I think it would look nice once the model's painted. :)

well, since it's all model colour it's a pretty 'cold' set of paints. also, I try to tie a miniature up by mixing the same colour in most of my mixes to create a uniform feel. It's not something you can see, but you can 'feel' it when looking at the mini :p
this has been a technique exercise mostly to practice with model colour.

the warpstone is something I'll have to repaint ... I tried to make it shiny but it seems I failed :D any suggestions on how to do it better? paint every single part of the stone as an indicidual gem maybe?

the skulls and candles have allready been clipped off. I like them too because they give the mini a nice balance, but first of all I really HATE painting those stupid games workshop skulls and second I think candles on skulls on a wooden collar are just too stupid :p

imo it looks good - maybe try to use brighter, more eye-catching colours

Nice and dark overall look, smooth transitions (I especially like the red on the robe), good color choice. Sometimes less is more :). I would pick out the wood, that looks also really good.

As for the wyrdstone, I would try the following to give it an inner glow: I would paint the planes of the crystal that way, that the inner part would be brighter and the edges darker. So exactly the other way as it is now. What do you think of that?

I'm gonna give that a try endrem ! that might just be crazy enough to work ;) if that doesn't work out i'm gonna try the gem effect ... after that the piece will be so plugged with paint I won't have any more options :D
