Woodelf Hero with great weapon

Post by Gottkaiser »

Well, I finally painted something I'm confident with. But first the pics, fluff can follow:

I decided to give him leather armour, because it seems wrong to me to live in the wood, be sneaky, stealthy and wear an clanging armour. And I hadn't seen him done this way.
The blade isn't very good, but I just couldn't get it right. Maybe I will fix it sometime in the future.
Apart from that, I'm happy with it. I took my time, I enjoyed every tiny detail. I think I will take more time for painting in the future again, so I can do more of guys like him. Did I mention I'm happy with him? :D

And of course I don't mind if you like to vote ;):

Of course, above all this, I would like to have your comments, tipps and critiques.

Nice nice! Dark and muted colors, but these might be simply be your own choice. There's one thing I don't think stands up to the standard of the whole mini - the metal blade. It looks stained and old. Not something clean and tidy I would expect to be wielded by a Wood Elf hero. But you seem to be aware of it...

I love the look of the armour (nice, leathery look) and the cloak. The hair could use some more highlighting to define the shapes better

Hm, I guess I have to agree wtih you on the hair. I thought it better then the stuff i normally do (it is...). It certainly has more depth the usual, but it kinda stinks compared to the rest.
Has anybody some suggestions for the blade? I thought of gold, copper or some fancy metallic, but I'm not sure what to do.

Although the dark colours are nice, now he doesn't look like a hero to me. He just doesn't have that special feel about him, sorry I can't really explain but that's how I see it...

Too much heroic fantasy Skirit?

Heroic deeds make you a hero not flashy things...

I like his armour, but make a blade more brighter will be cool

@Skrit: I know what you mean. It is hard to put the finger on such things.

Well, I did the blade in gold now and highlighted the hair a bit more. The hair is better imvao, the blade is indifferent. Need help *sigh*

Indeed it's hard to say exactly what I mean, it's more a feeling. Glad you understand as It's got nothing to do with your painting skills which are pretty good!

The hair definitly looks better now. As for the blade, it's such an enourmous one that it immediately draws the attention. I don't think it's painted badly but because the rest of the mini is quite dark and the blade is bright it might look awkward. So my only tip I could think of right now is too darken the blade to get it more coherent with the rest of the paintjob. That might help.

Thanks.
So maybe I should really try a bronze coloured blade. Hm, I'll think about it while I try to get my last Mini for the year done.
Or should I go for a non metallic blade? Idon't know, which colour to use for such a thing, neither do I think I've got the skill to do it properly.

from my part it missing a demarquation between the different parts of your mini....try to add some black thin line between them

highlight more the grey-blue-green tunic with a zenithal effect
