seriously though - these are very cool minis and probably some of the best undead pirates currently available. looking forward to seeing them painted by you!

finally started working on the furnishing of the new painting studio last week 
I assembled my old desk and already unpacked some boxes. Bought some new lights for the photo setup I'm planning to do: a dedicated setup with 3 lights...
I've also come up with a layout of the room, this is what it will look like:

So the stuff in orange is painting related... the two squares at the top left are already in place: my old desk will be used for assembly and basing, and also for storage. Right next to it is my dedicated photo setup. It's a small cupboard, about 80cm high and 60cm wide, which in the past I used to put my cd player on and store some magazines in. It's perfect for the job! The yellow square next to the photo setup is the place where I will probably put a display case (not yet sure about it). Opposed to the assembly desk will be the painting area, next to the window, so I can easily use the same office chair to switch between desks. I'm probably going for an Ikea Vika table, with regular table legs on one side, and drawers on the other one. I think a 150cm desk will be more than enough. Something like this:

On the other side of the room I will probably place my computer desk. This will also double as a music player, so the racks containing my cd collection will be placed nearby.
I will leave on holiday this week, so the studio will have to wait a while to get completed. I'm hoping to go to Ikea somewhere early September to buy the desk, and maybe a display case.
I have also decided to postpone my pirate project and continue where I left off: painting some Red Box Games minis.

Hi everyone! I'm currently enjoying some must needed rest, I'm on holiday with my family at the seaside.
I've also picked up the brush again after 3 months and it feels good! I'm trying to continue where I left off with the Red Box Games figures, but this isn't as easy as I expected. I did some crappy painting on Yrsa's cloak, not sure if I find the courage to continue working on her. The cloak on The Keeper is also done, quite happy with it but I'm still thinking about the colors I'm going to use on the rest of the figure.
So I decided to start working on the third figure of the batch: Myrianna of Aelfheim. I consider this figure yet another experiment since I'm painting it using wet blending. So far I did the skin and the back of her cloak. I think the result looks very smooth, but it's hard to achieve the contrast and zenithal lighting I want to have. But I'm sure that a lot of practice will solve this in the future. In fact I think I've learned a lot already when painting the cloak: it's all about controlling the flow of the paint, pushing back the lighter color, going over it again... It was very slow on the little folds at first, but in the end I was painting a reasonable speed.
I just noticed this is the first time I post a picture at this size and the blending still looks quite good in my opinion.
And sorry about the bad quality of the picture, the makeshift photo setup I have here doesn't really yield the best results.

The face and the blending look good but the pictures is showing something strange in the creases of the cloak, especially the two big creases at the bottom, it looks like a moulding defect that could do with some filler.
Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again

Yeah it really shows in the pic; not reallly visible on the real mini. Should have coated it with dilluted Milliput before priming....

I like this too so far, but i find the tones of the cloak a bit too evenly spread, for example the lower areas have the same midtones/shades and highlights as some of the upper areas, i think a more effective manner would be to apply some darker glazes on the lower areas of cloth perhaps? Just an idea anyway, i still like what you've done so far, feels quite dusty and dirty with the atmosphere of the model.

green leady - Shadows on the hood in reverse - it should be - main colour - sharp edge , dark area , smoott transicion to main colour , bright area - again dark
The Keeper: - cloak same colorr as the skin ?? (not iven a litle difrence ?? - or it is but im tired ... ??)
