I decided for that composition, because symetric composition could look unnatural ... I was thinking about this band like on a patrol.
Maybe they are in a trap ... the boss said "check there", but on the back there is something mooving too ;) It just my imagination.
This composition IMO was most interesting :) but thanks to our discussion I know, that many of my ideas aren't legible enough :bonk:

I decided on a base with the rock, but I didn't know, that drilling will be so difficult. One hole took me 1,5h to make and the same amount of time for my hands to rest before painting. Learning from this, I made the other slots for minis from miliput.
And I see that it could be better too, but I see it now, when the base and minis are finished.

Thanks for all that good criticism :D I will try to remember about it the next time :rose:

P.S. and sorry that you had to wait for answer, but yesterday I was too tired to be any good for anything, especially for reading in English. Even 3 episodes of Battlestar Galactica didn't help me ;)

Another work on request ;)

All opinions are welcome, and to make the picture complete I will add that this work was created because of the customer?s admiration for this model:

https://www.coolminiornot.com/index/whatm/GW/id/169811

I think I managed to keep safe balance and it?s obvious the work was inspired by the model mentioned above. I wouldn?t like to be accused of plagiarism? but I hope I managed to meet the customer?s expectations without going across the border of decency. ;)
It was a challenge but I didn?t mean to compete with Demonherald?s model, but wanted to find a safe compromise between the imposed concept and my own ideas.
So my task was to find and use characteristic elements of the original work, and to combine them with my own.
Demonherald?s version made it into the history of miniature painting and inspires not only me, but also other painters. :) I am aware of this fact, so I hope he doesn?t mind being such an inspiration for my model.

To be honest, whether it is inspired by daemonherald or not, you have put your own style to this piece of work and to me it just completely blows me away. The freehand work is smooth and really well detailed. Thanks for showing this to us Ana. Did a piece off the top of the banner break off, where the golden side ball thingy is meant to be? But seriously when i was watching the wip for this piece i knew it was going to look really good. Great job :D

freehands IMO are the strongest point here- IMO back of the Dred and the base aren't that good(middle part this one with pipes, and between legs). Some contrast might work there- as for the back of the base it's just to "empty" and a bit "sandwich-like". The banner- it's great blown by the wind and this freehand-amazing , and those "shoulders" of the Dred-broken, scratched I love those. Congrats well deserved demon!

I only regret you haven't had true competition in that category. I'd love to compare it with other works of similar quality.

@arctica - right, the element broke off and so it was not there even while the photos at the GD were taken....

@Nameless - that's right, it was one of the categories where the winner was way too obvious.

Your Dread is really impressive! Although it may be heavily inspired by others' work, you managed to paint it in your own unique style, the style where contrast might be a bit low, but which has a certain amount of artistic depth in itself. It's very well-thought-out and it works for me all right! The freehands are good technically and compose well with the piece. The comperhensive weathered look is so well executed. And I really love the banner - both front and rear!

Congratulations on your well deserved gold. Best vehicle in GD! You're getting so good! French and Spanish painting level is as close as it has never been before!

I missed the Dread here, wondered how it turned out in the end.

I really love the freehand! I kinda suck at it so can only dream about achieving it one day.

What kind of throws me off are the pose (the right arm pointed downwards towards the beastie and the torso overhanging forwards a bit) and the banner.

That's just personal perferance, technically there is nothing wrong.

So when will we get a tut about the freehands?! 8)

And here's a new photo from me:

I know I really liked the mood of Bragon's harlequin, so I think it turned out that he's to blame for the atmosphere of my work.

That's how I imagine this race - like clowns from horror movies, not very sweet and funny but more like causing irrational fear, like nightmares.
I am happy about the mood - the effect is like what I had in my head... and after such a long time I can hardly remember how painful was the process of painting this model. These checkers were like a penance.... It was a painstakingly worked out model.

But you still can criticize, my heart won't hurt ;) and I may bet a few valuable suggestions? :D And at least I managed to feed my curiosity what are harlequins like in painting :)

And here's something else which was finished just before the end of 2008. Here you will have a lot to criticize:

I painted already converted minis and didn't do anything about the sculpts. I didn't repair them because it would have taken me as much time as painting did ;)
I am really happy about how I managed to deal wit both blades of swords.
The smaller one was broken and then badly glued together :?
Both had non-symetrical and inconsistent width of blades.
So I painted a wavy line in the middle and damaged the blades badly, to hide the imperfections of sculpts.

Unfortunately I didn't feel like struggling with all the other parts like that.
I tried to hide some under dust and expose only these parts which were not much of a problem in painting.

The conversions have charismatic atmosphere and I really liked it about these models (like frozen images from a movie presenting main characters ;) )
And I think it's most important for a gamer.
I - as a painter - can complain, but I have to admit the conversions make really positive impression in general. If it wasn't this way, I wouldn't accept to paint them.

And so here's the full squad

And here are the models on individual photos:
