Thanks for all your input!
For my next mini I will try to plan my base ahead of time, and try to put in some extra effort.

@Arctica:
As far as I can remember, I used warlock purple (GW) as the basecoat colour. I then shaded by adding increasing amounts of sanguine base (Privateer Press) to the basecoat. After that I made some glazes adding greatcoat grey (Privateer Press) and Space wolves grey (GW)- These last colours I also used in the other parts of the mini). Highlighting was done by adding Old Rose (Vallejo) to the basecoat, until about 50:50, and after that adding white, but I never highlighted with pure white.
I hope that makes sense :)

It's been a while since I posted my last mini here.
I finished this paintjob a few weeks ago. It's meant to take part in the Lowlands competition at Games Workshop. And therefore, I tried painting it Eavy Metal style. All metallics are painted NMM. The gems are painted with a gloss varnish after I took the pictures.

NMM on the Hallebarde (or Axe cause I'm not sure of the word in english) isn't popping enough. On one side, you have the helmet who's clearly popping, and on the other side it's just dark and not as shiny as it would really be. It's a blade, and it's supposed to be bright and pop, there it seems that the blade is made of stone :( It's like the Phoenix on the front of the robe, eventhough, I'm not sure if this one needs to pop that much.

Besides that. Love the flames on the robe, the freehand on the cape and the skin color is great

I'm no NMM expert so I'll let that pass but for me the flames and the rest of the freehand are awesome! :clap:

Btw, nice to see another talented Dutchie here! :D

I'm so smooth and shiny...

I second the comments on a weapon - it doesn't really shine, looks like stone, not metal. also, that purple used for darkest shade doesn't really work here. you might want to change it with your next attempt.
and - as I am sucker for bases - such a nice paintjob deserves a suitable base. this is imo too plain. but maybe that's just me.

good luck at the contest!

Overall great work!

As said the NMM on the weapon could use more bright spots. You really did a great job on his helmet/gold NMM as well as his breastplate but it seems like you didn't go all the way up to white on his weapon. The phoenix could have used more shadows especially on the side which is kinda "turned in" and hidden.

Freehands are awesome, the fire freehand at the front probably isn't something I would choose for an elf ;) but execution is flawless! I also like the gems very much and that Gloss Varnish added a lot of realism to it.
