It could be the brand since certain paints have a higher pigmentation which allows them to maintain a good color saturation even when diluted. Personally I switched to Vallejo which made a huge impact when I started trying to add 3+ layers of highlights. I can pretty much water my paints down to nothing and still get them to show up over black primer.
I do realize that these are already finished and apologize for any unwanted criticism in advance. Honestly I feel hesitant to say anything at all since you mentioned only wanted certain things to be critiqued, however I feel you open yourself to opinions the moment your work is posted. Obviously we only have pictures to go by and you know what's best when it comes to what you're trying to achieve.

I welcome the criticism, and I'm still working on understanding this thickness of paint people keep going on about. The paint on the miniatures is very thin, the pigmentation of the paint is quite high and the layers I use are quite thin, so I'm know I'm not daubing it on with a 2" brush. I've narrowed the problem down to either my photography (which I'm getting better at), my varnish (recently changed to a new varnish, it has a better finish than stuff posted thus far), or perhaps that I'm painting older models which are less sharp than the new stuff and tend to look as though the paint is thicker when it isn't.
I dunno... we'll see how I go. I'm getting better, but I do think that I just need to practice, practice and practice some more to get where I want to be.

I'm really worried about where you live! Although, it could plausibly be Paris, from what I've heard of what Parisians get up to

Excellent blues, mediocre yellows. Very nice freehands.
Overall: much better than average, and I think your best paintjob I remember...

what he said.
I'd personally like to draw you attention to small inconsistencies in your painting. Example - take a look at "back toes" and bottom of legs at the last pic. Do you see a difference between highlights level on left and right leg?
I'm just nitpicking perhaps, considering that this is a gaming piece.
