I was going to do a darker wash anyway but it's already 100 times better than my other works
One problem I am still having is my primer coat takes a long time to do (6 coats on this figure), I think I'm using too much water and not enough paint, as you can see from his legs it's already scraped off just by putting the figure down on my keyboard when I rushed to the kitchen to rescue the dinner
I got a long way to go getting the paint thinkness right still

maybe You should try spray primer? I remember gw one worked fine for me but common car-spray works almost equally fine

Very good improvement from the first figs you showed. The skin does need more shading and highlights.
What do you use for primer? If you really want brush-on primer, try Humbroll. You need thinner for that, but quite a few historical painters use it.
The easy button is spray cans or airbrush. You could try car spray like demi said. (Matte spray) The ones I've used so far have been better than most hobby brands

From hobby brands I can recommend Tamiya spraycans.

I just used watered down Titanium White Acrylic paint as my primer.
I do have a mini artists spray gun here I could try

I just hope I don't end up shooting myself for not using it sooner

now as for the paint itself should I get a special primer or will it be ok to just continue using the watered down white?

I spray on primer will always give you a smoother base than a brush on primer IF you don't spray on too much in one go. You can always touch up the primer afterwards with watered-down paint.
And if you're going to use the minis for gameing then a good primer is a real must.

well spoken:
without good basecoat and varrnish after painting, paint will strip off with ease during late night tabletop struggles

This is a huge progress- just as Demi said "few more shades" on the skin.

Right, I'll have a go spraying one of my other recently stripped Sea Elves and see what the differance is, but I just had some bad news about money (or rather the lack of it for a few months) and the car's broken down so that's taking a lot of my time now, I'll post something as soon as I've gotten the car working :'(

Finally got something for you all

I fixed the bad eye day he was having with several thin coats of skin tone around the mouth and eyes as well as a good blacking to the eye sockets.
Finally found my Windsor and Newton 00 that the Mrs was using to brush glitter off her x-mas cards she made for the parents this year

and after a good washing in clean water I got to work doing the eye ball and the dots for the pupils.

I think it's a whole heap better than my previous Marty Fieldman work and I even got some shading done on his torso.
