i`m eager to see how this topic will progress. keep up good work Tomaz !

i`m eager to see a day when they`re finished too  - somehow painting jacks turned out to be a bit of a pain in the a.. for me... but at least i can make and show you pics of the few pieces of infantryman i did (but i think you saw them anyway ;) ).
following Tomaz`s example i worked on my circle today too - i assembled second doggy (first is already painted) and warpwolf. i found out that the glue-with-greenstuff-and-superglue :D tip featured in one of the NQ is really useful. oh, and that clayshapers help a lot when smoothening gs :).

eheh this topic really sparked my enthousiasm. I just returned from a painting afternoon, and I ended up painting my friends' mercenary dwarves. :)

I painted quite a bit these last 2 days, but not everything is going as I wished it would.

First of, I want to say that with high quality I didn't mean showcase quality, I meant high army quality. These models are supposed to see the tabletop and I want them to look really good there, but I don't want to burn out on them.

When I started a big setback was that 2 of my lights and my small TV went p00f after a weird shortage in the electricity circuit, and so now I'm left with 1 for painting and taking pics and no TV in the background... luckily my laptop wasn't plugged in at the time.
oh well...

I have taken a load of pics, but I can't really help the fact that they're a bit dark (and some are blurry) and aren't really showing the real colors
I have taken the best of the bunch to show.

Colorchoice for the models was easy, I like natural colors on my miniatures, and the models are supposed to live in the woods so obviously I went with browns and greens.

I started of with Kaya.

Because I wanted the skin to be a bit in theme with the rest I started of with a scorched brown basecoat (big mistake) It was way too dark for her. So I covered it up by adding P3's midlund flesh to scorched brown and left only some brown in de deepest recesses and to darkline the skin areas.

The next steps were done by highlighting up to pure midlind flesh and eventually Elf flesh and then a touch of white. After the highlights, I glazed with a 3:1 mix of Dark flesh and purple ink. I didn't shade because the scorched brown had left the recesses dark enough.

After the skin I went on to paint the pants and sleeves.
I decided to use a light yellowish brown for the main parts and a warm dark brown for the straps, shoes and those things that I call mudflaps.

The yellowish parts started off with VMC Yellow Ochre. (a color that I had never used before)
Shading was done with a mix of Yellow Ochre, Brown Ink and matte medium. Increasing the brown ink and eventually adding some scorched brown for the deepest shades.

Highlights were built up by adding white.
After all the highlighting I reshaded some parts with brown ink + scorched brown.

The Reddish parts started off with a coat of Dark Flesh. I highlighted this with snakebite leather and eventually some VGC bonewhite.
This I shaded again with the brown ink + scorched brown mix and after the shading I highlighted the edges again with the last mix + some bonewhite.
I glazed the dark parts with brown ink.

*this was actually a very difficult stage, the mini has some folds that aren't really that good defined (both on the yellowish and red parts) it was a struggle to really locate them and bring them out with highlights, I might repaint it later on*

Up to now I've spend about 4 hours on this model. Including a couple of breaks. It's a nice model but the sculpt could be sharper here and there. It also has some 'things' of which I have no clue what they're supposed to be..

Anyway I've started painting the metallics right now, but I've allready forgotten to take pictures of 2 different steps :? But I'll try to take pics of the next steps.

And I'm sorry for the bad quality of the pics, but it's hard to do while painting and with only one light.

More to come soon.

You could write a book on it. Or a thesis on painting an army, ToMaZ. What do you think? Wow...
Cool quality, even in these closeups!

Hehe if I would want to write a thesis on it, I should have a doctorate on painting miniatures
I am writing down as much of the progress as I can while painting. I have to keep in mind that my gaming buddy wants to learn from this, so I'm storing the colors techniques and such all in a word doc.

And thanx for the replies :)

great "bloggy: topic!
I like the painting* but what I like the most is that I can watch the painting process :D
maybe one day I'll also manage to show rusting process step by step?

*what absolutely doesn't change the fact I hate orobos line models...
