Circle of Orobos 'blog'

Post by ToMaZ »

Heya,

I have bought a new Hordes warpack yesterday. I said before that I didn't want to play Hordes, but the new units and a deeper look in to the rules have convinced me again.
The reason I went for the circle was the completly different playstyle from Khador and I love the infantry models and most of the warbeasts.

The plan is to create some sort of blog for this developing army. As I promised my friend, who wants to improve his painting, that I would paint this army to a high(er) standard and write down as much as I can of what I did... (I wonder why I promised that :? )

Sooo the battlebox consists of 2 Argus (doggies) a warpwolf (bigger angrier doggy) and Kaya (who looks too small to control these doggies)

The assembly was a pain. The argus main body is split in half, and the 2 pieces put together leave large gaps to fill with GS. And because of this gap you need to resculpt some fur, armour plate and skin.
Also the 2 heads of my dog didn't line up well, so more GS work there the fill the other gaps.
After all this was done, I needed to do it again with the other dog :suicide:

The warpwolf was great to assemble. It's a big model so I had prepared myself to fill some gaps. But there hardly were any. Only where the main body connected with the lower half and where the tail needed to be. The arms went on without a problem.

His spikes were another thing though. They didn't fit the holes were too small for the tabs. At first I opted to leave them off, but it didn't look as dangerous without IMO.
So after some cutting I could fit them in, but now they would come off with the softest touch and they looked fake and not a part of the model.
So to make them look better and make the fit stronger I sculpted fur around all the spikes. (some of this work I did today and it's still drying)

here's a pic of the cleaned and assembled warpack (a smallish unsharp one, sorry. I will improve the pics)

After all this assembling I did the bases. I want a forest/natural theme with ruins. So I prepared some plaster for the ruins and broke of some shapes for the beasts to stand on.
I carved out some tiles and added damage to improve the look a bit. Not too much because most will be covered by the beasts anyway.

After all the glue was dry I decided to paint them.

The steps I took were these:

Basecoat everything black.
Paint part of the sand burnt umber other part flat earth
Drybrush the sand bonewhite
Wash with brown ink (to make it look more moist)

Paint the ruins VMC german grey
Drybrush 50/50 VMC german grey &VMC basalt grey
Drybrush Basalt grey
Drybrush 50/50 VMC Sky grey & basalt grey
Drybrush Sky grey
Drybrush VMC silvergrey

Wash ruins with black, USA dark green + green ink, smoke + green ink
I outlined the tiles and edges a bit with skygrey and rewashed where necessary.
Add vegetation. (A bit of everything ;) )

That's it for now. Next thing it to undercoat everything and start painting. Again sorry for the quite horrible pics.

Excellent start and from what I hear the Circle is pretty much the best in gameplay at the moment!

After my short holiday I will start the Skorne blog so we'll be having two Hordes blogs!:)

I took the time to take some better pics. And a good thing I did, because now I know that I have some cleaning work left to do.
I noticed that I still need to do some more GS work on the dogs.
And that line on the warpwolfs side is not a moldline but defenition of a muscle but I was going to cover it up with GS anyway.

If any of you wants to run a blog - just do it... :)
If you want your blog featured in the left panel - just let me know. But bear in mind that putting a dead blog there won't be any good...
