as for water - I glue plastic walls around the base, fill it with water and when it's dry - rip models off the base

I know but in the gallery you can find pic with replaced background;
as for zombie-dwarf-goats they might look fine on the first look but photo is a bit too colorful I think - especially compared to hydra warrior #3

No no no, what I mean is that you probably used white photo for the last photo and then digitally edited it. But you can see white reflections on the sides and edges of the models, and that's slightly unnatural.

Have you tried the trick of taking two identical photos: one on dark and one on white background. Then use the white one to define your selection and the dark on to apply it to. Then if you use a dark digital background you avoid the white fringe and still can use the white one for easier selecting. I used to like this method.

to be frank I always work on white background - it's easier to work with in digi-stage
but I agree - these reflections dont look natural

whatever. you will remove it digitally anyway and cutting will be easy thanks to the white version! try it I used it whenever I had to add digital backgrounds.

Guys, after lots of pics digitally edited I've found the right way to do this - no digital editing of background if possible. Whatever you do, there's always something wrong (small parts, hair, grass, blur on objects etc...). Now I use few printed backgrounds which I put behind the mino while making photos and then just crop and add graphics. If you want, I could send you PDF's of those backgrounds (I have blue gradient, then some darker-grey-brown and dark grey). The pictures look natural (hue saturation) and even if theres' problem with light, I use standard pre-defined photoshop touchups on Levels, brightness/contrast and colour... It saves time and your health . Look at my CMON gallery (https://www.coolminiornot.com/artist/DarkTower) - everything since Brogan (including) was done like that...
