I know you must think "Ooooh noo, not again a fool who wants NMM recipes and tips"
This must be the millionth topic about nmm, but it's one of the first on this site I believe. And I'm sure that some of our users -like me- would find it very helpfull.
Ok, nmm takes practice, brushcontrol and understanding of how the light hits a certain object. I also know there are tons of nmm tutorials and topics on the net (like a good one on the rackham forum started by Trov!), but I think it comes in handy if you can try out different recipes or look them up again all together in one topic here on the site.
A lot of us painters are having troubles with colors for nmm. Not only the newbie painters who want to start with the most difficult right away, also more experienced painters find it often difficult.
I for one am having difficulties finding the right colours for a dirty steel nmm, or any steel nmm to be honest.
To start off I have a recipe for nmm gold that I think looks quite ok and shiny if done right:
Bestial brown + a touch of black
Bestial brown
Bestial brown + snakebite leather
Adding snakebite up to pure snakebite
Snakebite + a bit of bubonic brown
Adding golden yellow up to pure golden yellow
Adding white for final highlights.
I don't know if it's a good recipe but the colours work for me, now I only need to get the whole nmm technique 100% right.
Basically what I'm asking is: Could you post your experience with nmm and your tips. Tips like: how do you know where to put the (final) highlights?
If you are too lazy to type a whole reply but know good links please post those. It can help the nmm-ignorants over here. Here are some links that probably everyone has seen before:
