Weathering leather. armour...

As you should know I'm going to be doing an Orc and Goblin army for the ToXG, now I want to keep the main colours leather looking and stay away from the GW Orc 'All Blacks'. But what I've done (a few tests to get use to painting skin and lots of brown) I'm not too sure it looks weathered or dirty enough.

As known orcs aren't known for being Mr Clean and so I want to try and get the leather/brown and metals looking darker and worn. I know ink works but it's basic and doesn't really take much skill, so I want to know if any one has any tips for -

Weathering?
Wear and Tear?
Metal?
Leather?

You can paint great rust and weathering by laying watered down washes and (very) watered down paints - browns for example
besides good idea it painting metallics over brown undercoat...

that's for now - if I get anything constructive I'll post it here for sure

Try to get some Tamiya Smoke, once you get the hang of it this can work wonders. Also maybe mud splatters done with an old brush could work really well...

Now leather.. I don't think I paint convincing leather or at least it doesn't look very well. The Orc and Goblin army I'm doing for the ToXG is going to be more natural/neutral (ie browns, blacks, greys) but I have a problem with painting the browns. I want them to look like leather but different shades and well... they don't look too bad but they seem like they don't work that well.

Scorched Brown
Bestial Brown
Snakebite Leather
Brown Ink
Bubonic Brown

This are all my brown colours, I've mixed and shaded the models but there's still something about them that doesn't look right. I want to get the browns looking good and I have plenty of practice (twenty four normal orcs in fact) and was hoping you kind people would be able to impart with some tips or schemes etc?

I'll get pics up when I can of the first five orcs, so you can see the progress.
