Cm-c plus airbrush, worth the coin?

Post by shakes »

Thinking of getting a new air-brush, haven't played with one in a couple years and my old one was crap, the Iwata Cm-c plus sounds amazing, does anyone have an opinion on it? or Iwata in general. I'm hoping to be able to actually paint complete 54mm mini's with it and possible 28mm (not just do base coats). On that note does anyone know of any miniature painters galleries who do only paint with airbrushes? I definitely don't want to replace my brush with an airbrush but i think it would be a cool new tool to add to my arsenal and under some circumstances might give a better result than a traditional brush. So after that little rant....any opinions would be great.

P.S. i know it might seem stupid to go for something so expensive as a starter but i tend to be compulsive and i hate when i buy low grade stuff to experiment and find that i actually will be wanting the good one and then have to in the end cough up more money than i otherwise would have had to.

Cheers, Shakes.

Since I recently bought an airbrush for basecoating 28mm I might be able to give some input... These are nor my own findings but I talked to the guy owning a pretty good modelling shop and surfed the net for advice...

* First of all get as an expensive kit as you can if your going to actually paint with it. You can do a decent basecoat with almost anything but fine control requires good shit... Iwata is generally considered a good brand but I have no input on this model. The "hand made" and "worlds finest" I found on some site hints it's probably a good one, but I would shop around carefully before shelling out that amount of money... Also check the price of spares. :bonk: You will need a new needle some day...

* Also be prepaired to buy proper airbrush paints. The standard GW or Vallejo etc. aren't the best when it comes to airbrushing, and will clog the fine nozzles needed for those thin lines if your actually painting 54 mm figures.

* The air source is just as important as the airbrush. Get a good compressor with a pressure tank if you don't have one. If your going to spend that amount of money on an airbrush get an air source that match it (chain... weakest link .... yada yada).

Personally i would try to borrow a similar airbrush and test it on a 54 mm fig before I spent the money. I would be a true Duh! moment to realise that airbrushes isn't up to painting 54 mm figs to the standard you want
