I'd go for the bone color because the mini itself is different from most normal marines anyway...

Yes I have to agree Bone sounds the best choice though I think Skrit is onto something with the different helmet theme.

I also vote for bone;
I've just realised this guy would look nice on photo if accompanied by some other bone-armoured space marines...

Yes when I've decided on the head he'll be placed within a unit I already have done.

But I'm unconvinced about the bone head. Yes it fits but the problem is it's exactly the same as the normal marines and I have no idea how to distingish against them and normal marines then.

It has been suggested about the red due to the fact it's a non armour colour, on normal marines the only red is purity seals and the eyes. So it would stand out as different. I think beacuse it's on a model with a red cape it doesn't seem well but I am still undecided.

You shouldn't worry about this: Your commander has cloak, "rope" on the chest and special equipment after all; I think it's enough - it's not a damn christmas tree after all :wink:
other way to make it look more 'important" is giving it elevated base: You could use plastic barrel for example...

True, characters could be done that way. But a Vet sergeant would look odd when in a unit as he's raised above them all. I think I may go for the red head or cream with the blue stripe.

I will get round to doing better bases at some point, but for the moment the plain simple base works weel enough.
