I thought exactly the same when I started to use wet palette
as for the battle biatch - blue tone is fine color for shadows; do you want to keep the dark look of it or maybe highlight whole piece?

I figure what I have done so far are the shadows and mid-tones. I would like to do a bit of highlighting to add contrast and push the colors as far as I can.

Tomorrow is my last day off for the week, so I'll probably be looking at another 8-10 hour painting session unless I decide to take a break.

Breaks are for the weak ! actually do take breaks often when painting, you want to keep your circulation going and give your eyes a break too. Even if its for a few seconds, it will help you. But anyway i think using a wet palette is really nice and so helpful if you have large areas to use. Plus the thing i've found with the palette is that it helps thin my paints down a little anyway which gives smoother paint application.

One thing with red which mahon told me, was to use bleached bone possibly to highlight the red giving a softer highlight and less pink as a highlight but might be an idea on the very edges as a fine point.

Ahoy!

Just a few recent WIPs (and I mean really, half base coat, no highlights). May be repainting the assassin to fit my Witch Hunter army scheme and I think I could do better on the skulls. There also isn't much to see on the LoTD marine other than the flames which was a good 3-5 shades of paint.

I had some problems getting a good picture of the SoB due to the light reflecting off the layers of wash and metallics. I also have four more at that stage, so I can get a nice group pic when they're finished up.

Anyway, have the next two days off, so hopefully I'll get something finished for once. If Mahon and I were to have a race to see who could paint a figure faster, my money would be on Mahon.

Although the flames look good visually on the LotD marine they should actually be the other way around. Yellow below and darker towards the top.

The works look promising so let's see what you come up with the next two days!

I thought about that, but then I decided to stay true to the source material since both the illustration and the GW figure go from red to yellow. Not my fault!

Had problems taking a good picture, so I have a light and a dark. Need some suggestions for finishing this up.

My main concerns are the following:

- Hair color, does white seem to fit the color scheme or would that be two bright? (the alternative is black)

- Gun color, the scheme calls for black, but I'm leaning towards a gray (grey ).

- Black highlights (robes), can I do those with a gray/blue mixture? I've tried pure blue previously, but then the robes don't look dark enough.

- Another layer or two of sharper highlights on the red?

Every person visualises everything in their own way but with the red i've always found it quite tricky to photograph it well (not sure if others have) i would recommend taking the red a bit more brighter i think.

With the hair you can always dull down the white to an off-white almost grey look i think that wouldn't make it too bright and if you did the robes a white sort of colour then it wouldn't be bright at all, and if you really wanted to you could make the gun casing white too tie it all in with some sense of uniformity. That way your model only has 3 distinct colours to it and i think that would work quite well.

I also had problems with photographing red in the past and still find it one of the most difficult colors for photography. the problem is that nuances like highlights and shading aren't as visible as with other colors....
