PaintMinion says, "Hello!"

Post by paintminion »

Well, let's see...I live near Chicago Illinois in the US. My husband is a Research Chemist in non-stick coatings at Akzo Nobel,. My daughter is in 6th grade. I work part time for my cousin-in-law in online retail of dice and card games. My husband and I used to own the store Comic Quest, where we sold comics and games. We sold the store about 4 years ago and my hubby went back to chemistry to do some amazing stuff. He paints for tabletop, and pins pieces for me when my hands are tired of drilling.

I've been painting about 17 years now. Yes, I have won a Bronze Demon, a couple of First Places at Gen Con back in the 90's, and a few awards in online competitions. I take commissions occasionally. I paint for Dark Sword Miniatures - all the Elmore Dragons are mine. I have also done some work for Reaper Miniatures and Thunderbolt Mountain (the pieces on their banner and in their mag ads). I continue to work with all three if I can just find more time to paint!

I run a local paint group -- IMMPS, or Illinois/Midwest Mini painters Society. We meet every Friday we can and just paint and support each other. I also host Tuesday paint nites at the local shop-- The Game Escape, and give private lessons there as well.

I am the Gen Con Volunteer MHE Coordinator--which means I volunteered to do the huge job managing the Miniatures Hobby Events for them: The painting competition, the Paint & Take, classrooms, seminars, demos, speed painting...Whew! With the help of many very very good volunteers including Ladyeyes here, of course!

I teach classes at ReaperCon and at Gen Con. I'm known for my hair method...or "The Minion Method" as my volunteers call it.

If I'm not painting, I'm writing, doing housework, doing more housework, working, and playing with our cat who prefers my paint water to her regular water dish.

I like dragons and fairies.

I'm a painter, not a player. I said I would play GW when my Wood Elf army was finished. that was started about 8 years ago. I'm ready to sell it off unpainted now. I HAVE played D&D, love BattleTech (old school), and Settlers of Catan.

I have a website that's a mess. Lost my space for my gallery and lost time to finish my Dragon Diaries, and plain just lost heart in keeping my web guru on track to keep it updated this past year. I'm PaintMinion everywhere on the different boards and forums. For a gallery, go to CMON.

I have judged at Gen Con for the last few years, as Lead Judge and Coordinator, and have been assistant judge at MMSI last year as well as going to be this year.

I take my judging and critiques very seriously. Being a writer I am also very well aware of what makes a good crit and what is a bad and useless crit. I'll do my best to be a positive part of this little community--though I won't be on here everyday I'll be on here at least once a week.

Any questions? Need answers? Need chocolate? Just let me know!
