If you consider how the quality of GW's Masterclass painting and 'Eavy Metal reduced over the years, it could point to the prepainted end. Have a look in Black Gobbos Masterclass series :).
Still it sounds very unlikely to me, though.

Just a curiosity thing, but my last order from GW for my dragon parts included a prepainted rubbery figure of a spearman on a horse as a suprise gift. Granted that order was almost a year ago, but still puts the question out, were they thinking of something like this that long ago? I will try and post a pict of the fig later tonite my time.

Really Mike? I've never heard anything happening like that in my 'career' at GW...

Are you sure its from GW or is it a gift from the store you bought?

It was a mail order direct from GW US. Not sure why they included it. Originally thought it might have been something to do with the Lord of the Rings, but with the talk now, I thought it might be relavent.

Here are the links to the pictures I took tonight;

They list Sabertoothgames and GW on the bottom of the green stands and they have turning counters like the old epic games had. If they were for another game, then I do not know what it was, but they are prepainted pieces and have copyright dates to 2006.

That's from this game.

It looks like GW made the game for Sabertooth Games. Huh, I didn't know that. I remember seeing the game and figures at Target a few years ago when it was out.

Well, here's a couple things to consider:

If they could get customers that just want to play and don't care about painting...? Would the potential number of non-painters that want to play a game be larger than the number of people willing to paint the minis in order to play in official events? The argument could be made that this would open up a new source of customers and make it easier for them to be a "regular" game with easier to use playing pieces?

Also... having this newer system where you have to field huge amounts of minis and vehicles and so on could be a clever way to clear out a lot of old stock before such a change-over...?

Just saying.
