can't disagree: I use gw, rms and vallejo but also have pactras and one or two humbrols in my paint-box
Well said Flynn!
I also like Demi use as many different paints as possible. (or is that buy as many as possible)
I have Vallejo, Citadel, Tamiya and Compendium (a very old line) amongst others...
I am very much in the right paint for the right job group of people, no matter the manufaturer.
Pre-P3, my collection included paints from RMS, VGC, VMC, ABC(Apple Barrel Colors), Games Workshop(new bolt shell bottles), Citadel Colour(older hex and circular bottles, manufactured by Coat d'Arms for GW), Tamiya Color, Partha Paints, Adikolor, and Reaper Pro Paints.
I think that everyone one needs to find paints that acheive the effect they are going for. For me personally, since starting to use P3, I have found that P3 covers 90% of what I want to get accomplished all by itself. It also in my experience has covered that 90% better then any other manufactures brand of paint I have used so far.
I hate to bring an old thread back from the dead, but I just got the second half of the P3 line last week. I love the new metallics they released, and the new greens are amazing. I've got a miniature for a contest that I'm working on currently that will be the first thing I'm going entirely with these paints. I'm not getting rid of the old colors I already have, but I'm extremely happy that I bought the rest of the P3 line. The coverage is great, and the paint is super smooth. The inks and washes come in dropper bottles, and they are really nice, too. The inks work well with just a little bit of water, and the washes were designed with some paint and matte medium in them, as well as inks, so that they don't run and pool quite as badly. The flesh wash is really nice, and the armor wash + brown ink is probably going to replace my current custom washes for silvers and golds.
The line has an Armor Wash and a Flesh Wash. Both of the washes were designed to be more than just ink. I did the chainmail on my WIP with the armor wash. I looks to have some black, blue, and brown in it. I used it straight. It works nicely with a little water in it too. If you can get No Quarter at a local game store, try to pick up No Quarter #11 (previous issue, current is #12). Mike McVey has an article in that one all about the inks and washes. If any of you guys and gals were flying over to the US for Gen Con, I'd be more than happy to bring my paints for you to try them out. I don't think I'm getting out to Europe any time soon though.
