2 Battle reports

Post by ToMaZ »

I decided not to hijack Demi's thread with my battle reports anymore  I played 2 games this weekend, both were pretty cool.

Battle 1

The old witch VS Caine. scenario: assassins.

I was fielding the army I had last used on the tournament because I want some more experience with the witch.

Old witch
Scrapjack
Kodiak

Full Ironfang Pikemen (IFP) + attachment
widowmakers
Greylord
Manhunter

Gorman

My friend Ivo was fielding

Caine
Gun mage captain adept
Long gunners
Trenchers
Stormsmiths
Journeyman warcaster
and stormblades (I think)

So I was facing a pure shooting army with one unit that could dish out some damage in melee... I didn't like this with my softer units.

I won the roll, but let my opponent set up. I wanted to make sure that he didn't get the stronger shooting units right across my key units.

He deployed the bulk of his army on my left. The stormblades on the far left, in front of them the trenchers who were dug in, then Caine and the journeyman to the right of the stormblades.
More to the right side of the field were the long gunners + gunmage captain adept (GMCA)
The stormsmiths were spread out across the deployment zone.

I deployed on my left because there was more terrain and thus more cover. The manhunter was placed on the right side. Just to distract a bit (I didn't expect him to survive long with that GMCA)
The IFP were in front of the witch. Scrapjack and Kodiak more to the center widowmaker behind a building on the middle-left side. Greylords and Gorman close to the witch.

1st turn

My opponent advances most of his army at normal speed. Trenchers dugged in again. Longgunners occupied the center between 2 buildings the stormsmiths were moving into position.
Journeyman casts Arcane Shield on Caine, and Caine casts blur on himself and moves alongside the advanced stormblades.

I advanced my IFP into shieldwall, the kodiak ran towards the longgunners (wondering if I should have used vent steam here to block LOS) Scrapjack advanced. The witch advanced behind the IFP and casts slaughter on herself. Then I dropped a murder of croes between 2 terrain features to block LOS. Gorman threw smoke on the witch.
The greylords threw blizzards. One on the scrapjack (stealth) 2 on the IFP again to block LOS.
Widowmakers stayed were they are, and popped a bullet in one of the overconfident stormsmiths's head.
Manhunter ran to the the right side behind cover (wouldn't make any difference but maybe the GMCA wouldn't kill him yet)

2nd turn

My opponent got most into shooting range.
GMCA killed the manhunter with just enough damage done (damn)
The longgunners did a combined attack after caine had cast a 6" snipe on them. My Kodiak was the target but a bad roll meant little damage.

The trenchers stayed dug in and threw smoke (this was a BIG BIG mistake)
The stormblades took position behind the trenchers, ready to go for the widowmakers the next turn.
The stormsmiths did nothing but advancing.

In my turn I spotted an opening to Caine. I could move the old witch into the trencher's smoke, take one free strike and charge Caine. I checked 3 times to make sure that the smoke was in my control area. I knew that Caine had no focus on him because of Snipe. No blur, and only arcane shield.

If I failed, I would lose the game for sure as I would be in the middle of his army :)

I decided to go for it. I upkept slaughter in my maintenance phase and kept the rest of focus on the witch. I activated Gorman, threw smoke on her. Then I activated her, Unseen path to the smoke of the trenchers, and a charge to caine. I took a free strike, but it missed. Then I boosted 2 attack rolls to make sure I would hit and Caine was dead.

End of the game :D

If my opponent hadn't threw that last smokebomb, I wouldn't have gotten to Caine, and I would probably have been shot to pieces. But hey, he made a mistake, and payed for it

2nd Battle

This was 2 vs 2, 500 pts of mangled metal!! (only there was one hordes army in it :D)

We rolled for who got to team up with who after the armylists were made in secret :) I made a list with karchev and got to team up with Cygnar.
Our opponents were the Legion of Everblight and Menoth.
2x 2 factions that according to the fluff would never work with eachother

It was no surprise that my Co-player fielded Darius with 2 centurions, one Ironclad and that channeling jack.
I fielded 3 berserkers and the spriggan + Karchev
(Oh boy)

Our opponents fielded Admon with a crusader, the avatar, the castigator and the devout.
The legion player fielded 2 carni's Tagrosh and 7(!!!!) Shredders.

My deployment was all in the center, my Co placed everything next to me.
Our opponents placed Tagrosh to the left with everything close and admon to the right . I think they were planning to flank us on 2 sides :D

Terrain was the same as in the previous game.
Our opponents went first and rushed everything forward to strategic positions (didn't look like flanking)

I casted tow, sidearms and used arcantik turbine to move my three berserkers together with Kharchev 6" forward. The spriggan followed with his slow pace. My Co casted his spells jackhammer, Full throttle on the centurions and then used darius's crane to move them a bit further forward . The jacks then positioned themselves. One centurion to the right of my battlegroup one to my left. The channeljack in our back ironclad next to darius slightly to the left of my group. (everything really close together)

Turn 2

The legionplayer moved his shredders to the center in front of my battle group. One of the carni's went to our right between the menoth jacks one
To the left next to the shredders (hurrah a wall of nasty beasts O_o)
The crusader stand in front of the shredders, admon about 5" to his right slightly behind a house (still chargable) the devout behind admon (why behind???)
The avatar ran up to our right flank followed by the castigator.

In our turn it was smashing time. I used arcantik turbine again, and tow. I moved 6" forward, turned my back to give the berserkers that extra little movement and used my feat. 3 berserkers, ready to charge with boosted attacks and damage, all for freeeee :D

One berserker charged Admon, and got a defensive strike from the devout I took some damage, but no systems were taken out (luckily) I attacked Admon (or is it Amon??) hit with the first attack, and did a lot of damage, hit with the second attack, a dead A(d)mon. Appareantly he had tough. And came back... no biggy I still had my headbutt. Again a dead caster and now he stayed dead... one down and a lot of inert jacks.
The second berserker slammed the crusader into 3 shredders and I killed all 3 of them with insane rolls. (hurrah)
The 3rd berserker tried to slam the carni, but I missed by rolling 3 ones

At this point my Co told me that if our opponent was smart he could kill karchev (I had never played against taghrosh before)
My Co blocked some charge lanes and attacked that second carni, but failed to do any major damage.

3rd turn

Our opponent attacked my first berserker with 3 Rabid shredders: Destroyed berserker. Then the carni attacked berserker nr3 who tried to slam and disabled him. Then Tagrosh attacked the 2nd and middle berserker, first he disables him but then he decides destroys him and ends right in front, or better yet, in the back of kharchev (karchev lives!!)

The avatar did an attempt to get closer and then it was our turn again. Tagrosh had only one fury point left because of his attacks, so he could only transfer damage one time.

Luckily I had LOS to tagrosh. I used arcantik turbine so I could charge past difficult terrain. I charged tagrosh over the destroyed warjack, first attack hits, damage got transferred to a carni. Second attack with the open fist hits, but fails to damage. Extra attack, hits, damage: double six + 19 (appareantly taghrosh still lives) Another attack, fails. Another one fails... (crap!) final attack... hits... and I did enough damage to kill taghrosh :)

This was actually an easy game because whe had 2 casters completly designed for controlling jacks.
But the god dice had put us together, it could have been different. I would have loved to play Karchev vs Darius. But I will get my chance to fight him later I'm sure :)

the witch's ability to move into cover is really nasty!
