the problem with metallics is that they are hard to photograph good. But I think you can achieve a better effect on them by dulling it down abit with several thing glazes of black. This doesn't change much of the look of the metallics, but only takes off the shine.

On the metallics on his loin - patch or whatever that thing is, there seems to be an abrupt crossing over from black to metallics. If you change this by adding a layer in between them with regular black mixed with boltgun metal you can get a smoother effect.

This figure has the perfect armour to do some small but effective weathering. all the little rivets and larger spikes can be given some layers of brown ink, maybe with a little orange mixed in, to give a rusty effect. It'll break the monochrome effect of the metallics.

and finally : how did you make the base? it rocks. I want to get some of the materials you use for my own bases, it's much better than corkboard.

For the base I mix slates of milliput and some bark (schorsschilfers voor in de tuin) on my base. You can cut the bark real easy and strip different layers off. I always have to try a couple different pieces to get a good and stable base.
The problem with those little pieces of bark is that it breaks easily. That's why I add those slates of milliput. It's harder and add's some stability for when you pin your mini on the base.
Also a wash of thinned down milliput adds some strenght to the bark.
I'm gonna get me a new bag of that barkstuff soon, if you want I can send you some then.

Taking pics of metallics is a pain yes, and as I can't get decent pics of mini anyway, it turns out even worse

I wanted the metallics to shine, not really old rusted metal, but more something in between new and used metal. The edges are a very bright metallic while the deeper parts are darker and dull. That's sets the cam off even more I think.

But I think you're right with your tips, I'll try to work them into the mini

Mordred beat med to the punch on what I was going to suggest. The tin layers of black ink, just enough to give it the lived in look.

Thanks for the idea on the bark and milliput suggestion.

Heya, it's been a long time since my last post. I have almost no time for painting lately. Working every day, too damn hot too, and I forgot where I had put my cam.

Today though, I found the time to take a quick snap of my testmodel for my doomreaver unit

Still WIP like everything else... but I hope to get a lot of stuff posted here finished in August, when I have more days off

I think the pic turned out to be ok. Better than usual at least. Skin is as good as finished, metallics and the little red part too. The rest was only basecoated to see how the scheme would work out. I wanted a darker and more realistic scheme, instead of the flashy red. The bloodspatters on the belly still need to be build up.

fleshtones look nice, but you'll need to thin your paint more because it looks a bit chunky, especially on the chest
