Re: p1per's WIPs
I prefer red, though, I would have tried to make it pop a little more
Great work on the cloak though
Re: p1per's WIPs
Now he remindes me more of a comics hero
well I think that the color selection might have been less fortunate this time, but the cloak looks good

Re: p1per's WIPs
Hey guys!
Still practicing metallics and therefore I picked up a Chaos Nurgle Lord from GW since I really liked the mini when it was released and with some nice armor parts I thought I might give it a shot.
First I tried the following:
Basecoat: Vallejo Air Silver : VMC Dark Sea Blue (1:1)
Highlights: more Vallejo Air Silver was added to the basecoat (until pure Silver)
Shadows: more VMC Dark Sea Blue was added and for the last shadow a bit of black

Picture's not great and on the pic only the helmet was shaded and highlighted. His shoulder armor was only basecoated!
Anyways I didn't really like it so I stripped the paint and reprimed him yesterday. This morning I started working on the helmet again with the following colors:
Maincolors: Coat'd'Arms Magic Metal (TinBitz Equivalent) -> Coat'd'Arms Gun Metal (BoltgunMetal Equivalent) -> Vallejo Air Silver
Shadows: VMC Dark Sea Blue Glazes
Midtones: VMC Hull Red Glazes

I think my recent try is more going in a proper direction than before. As a next step I will rework the metallic midtones with some GunMetal and GunMetal:Silver mixes since I think that the shadows right now are too strong.
What do you guys think?

Re: p1per's WIPs
I prefer second version. First color was more like: "Hey, look, my helmet is plastic". Second color is more: "Don't fuck with me cause I have a huge axe and knows how to use it"
You could easily add staints of rust on the helmet and with that color it wouldn't be surprising to see it rusted.

Re: p1per's WIPs
Had another go at it…
This time I picked up a sword from my bitsbox and did a fresh start since so far I wasn't really happy with all of my results so I dropped all of them in my mind and started at 0. The sword came quite handy with its' easy shape and clear line on where to place shadows and highlights. So I was good to go and here's my result:

To describe it with one word: Boooo-Ya!!
It's the first time that I'm happy with a TMM result. I know it's still far away from being great but I like it and now it's time to work on that basis and practice.
What did I change? First thing, less water for dilution… somehow I got lost in that whole dilution thing and even went to 6 : 1 (water : paint)
which is simply a dilution I'm not comfortable with. Second thing I sat down, read automaton's tutorial on metallics once more and followed it step by step. More or less I did pretty much every step I just didn't use all his shadow colors. I just used 4 mixes – here's the complete color list:
Basecoat: Coat'D'Arms Gunmetal (2:1 Water : Paint)
Shadows:
1.) P3 Sanguine Base (2W : 1P)
2.) VMC Russian Green (2W : 1P)
3.) GW Balor Brown : GW Chaos Black 2BB : 1CB (2W : 1P)
4.) GW Balor Brown : GW Chaos Black 1BB : 1CB (2W : 1P)
Highlights:
1.) Coat'd'Arms Gunmetal : Coat'd'Arms Enchanted Silver 1:1 (2W : 1F)
2.) Coat'd'Arms Enchanted Silver (2W : 1F)
some more glazes:
-) GW Lothern Blue (2W : 1F) glazed into highlights
-) GW Doombull Brown (2W : 1F) glazed into shadows + 4.) GW Balor Brown : GW Chaos Black 1BB : 1CB (2W : 1F) -> to intensify deppest shadows
Final Highlights:
Coat'd'Arms Enchanted Silver (2W : 1F)
VMC Metal Medium (top spots / edges)
That's it.
He probably won't read it here but BIG THX automaton for your great metallics tutorial !

Re: p1per's WIPs
Well I think that the helment on the nurgle lord looks very good at the moment. Maybe you could give it some stronger shade, but I would say it is ok. The experiment with the sword has really worked
