I know ;) but this sculpt is not so bad IMO.. despite the fact this is a WIP, it looks just like dragon for me ;) ;) no more no less..
there is much more manufacturers on the market which has badly designed / sculpted miniatures.. monsters looking like ruber toys..
i'm not a PP fanboy but i'm wondering why most opinions about PP releases are negative (in this thread)..
..and comparing to other Skorne warbeasts this 'dragon' thingy it's really good job..
now back to laughing ;)

actually it's not a bad sculpt. probably not up to current standards for monsters like dragons. but if it's smaller (like a giant eagle or something of this size) it's pretty good

and why most opinions are negative? maybe because people who like those sculpts don't express their opinions and explain why these are good models? and disappointed people are usually more vocal about their sentiments. don't you agree?

I am not a fan of most PP releases. Actually I consider them too 'clunky' and lacking finese present in many current miniatures. Even many GW miniatures seem to be better proportioned and have more grace... Well, just compare them to Infinity sculpts...

But there are good PP releases and this one may become one of them.

generally, I agree with your opinion..
most PP miniatures are clunky but thanks to that they are easy to paint (at least for players) ;) and terrible to assembling ;)
on the other side short statements saying: '..rubber toys' etc. in this case are an example of uber-tendencial attitude ;)
ofc. there are good PP releases, I think it's mostly because they worked with various sculptors (even post-rackham artists)..
important thing is also expectations of gamers and players - which are usually different..
Infinity have very interesting sculpts but as their miniatures have a lot of tiny details, they also need special treatment in painting - less contrast but more colorfull - just like in studio painting.. it's clearly visible in Giraldez paintinjobs and usually people love this style on Infinity models..

'rubber toy' comments usually result from combination of a clunky sculpt with inadequate paintjob. if they covered some weaknesses of their sculpts with great painting (like some companies do) they would get less comments like that.

you say these miniatures are great for gamers - so they surely get better opinions on gaming forums. this forum is focused on painting, so people judge from painter's perspective - and when you compare PP minis to some other recent releases (take Enigma, Infinity, Knight Models, etc.) they are less than impressive (most of the time).

Or maybe nobody managed to take full advantage of their potential and paint them in a way that would impress painters and encourage to change their opinions...

Now on the commenting issue, I also noticed how some members tend to react the same way to every mini released by either GW or PP... I don't care if they do and even I have done it sometimes. But it demotivates an open and honest discussion and I for one won't put much energy in such a thread.

And while I'm commenting anyway, my opinion in general on PP models is:

Overall I think the figs of PP are good. Sometimes a bit thick and chunky, lacking finer details, others are the loaded with details. Just look at the Skorne models that were sculpted by Vlad Jünger. Preferably on his blog, so you can really see all those extra details.
I guess it mostly depends on the sculptor. The fact that they only have one or two in-house sculptors and hire outsiders for most figs means that the models may vary a lot in style and looks. And the old models may look plain and bulky compared with the newer ones. The same thing goes for nearly every other manufacturer.

For the point being made that the figs don't appeal to painters but only gamers, I say bullcrap. It's an issue of taste and personal opinion. Like nearly everything in this hobby is.
