a Painter, not a player

Hello, I'm Xenock. I've been a wargamer for atleast 10 years.. Although I don't know exactly how long. I'm more of a collector than a wargamer.. Not that I don't want to game.. I just have few people to game with, and havent kept up with rules/editions. And, like many, I beleive I'd prefer to learn by playing.. So I just collect.

I've mostly collected Warhammer/40k, but I've looked into, and are looking into getting into warmachine/hordes again. So I've collected or painted many things..

welcome to the forums , you sound in the same situation i was in about 5-6 years ago. I thoroughly enjoy painting these days and i still collect armies and forces, but i dabble more for the painting these days, i hope you like the forum and find what you're looking for as the majority of members here are painters but some also enjoy playing where possible. Show us some pictures of your painted miniatures ! as we all like looking at pictures.

Since I got the Island of Blood Set. I haven't been able to paint too much from it. I seem to enjoy painting less and less manmade things.. And seem to be enjoying more and more creatures.. So who knows where that will take me..

Some solid painting there, but it's still gaming quality in my opinion.

You seem to rely on washes a lot for shading. Try to use dilluted paint and shade in a more controlled manner. Also try to put a bit more contrast in your highlights. I think these are the two main points you should work on for now.

Just pick a figure and paint it up to your best standard, then show it in our (WIP or Showcase) forums. Take the advice given there to your next paintjob, this way the quality of your paintwork will increase rapidly!

Remember that you can tell us how harsh or how gentle feedback you want.

And decide if you want your minis to move out of the 'good tabletop quality' range or to remain there. There's nothing wrong in painting gaming quality miniatures, but then much of our feedback might become unnecessary.

I'd love to get better at painting. But I don't have the best patience. Which is part of my problem. Although whats even worse is I can harely get myself to paint from time to time. And I think I'm starting to have problems painting regiments... Too many guys.. So I may end up trying one at a time... Which will take sooo long, but might give me better results than what I'm doing now.. Which is a color for a few guys, every blue moon.. lol

it seems that your goal is painting armies to a table-top quality, but you lack motivation. I suggest checking our Tale of Gamers section. You might find inspiration and motivation there

I think part of my reason for lack of motivation was college. I went to an art school which started sucking the fun out of art. Although almost of all these figures were since then, more recently.. Idk, I think the past year or two has just been too stressfull. Alot has gone on in my family..
