realistic snow

All right, my first post. I'm looking for tip: how to make realistic snow on small bases? Any suggestions or link?

I use baking soda mixed with Wikol (or PVA) and maybe a bit of water if the paste is too thick. I add a bit blue paint or ink to kill off the yellowish tint.

Sprinkle a bit baking soda over it to get a "fresh" and dry looking snow.
If you cover it with superglue and sprinkle some "snow" over it you'll get a wet looking, melting snow.

You can also get modeling snow from a (railroad) modeling shop but:
a) it's not always easy to find
b) difference isn't all his big

I tried some baking soda over superglue yesterday and all i got was a 1 molecule thick layer of soda covering the superglue bubble...I must be doing something wrong here...

so, is this the same method for doing the sea waves hitting the shore or a stone? making the splash?

i find powder glass in the company who are replacing breaked glass on cars....the bicarbonate sodium can be found in pharmacy, it isn't the same that baking soda
