How to convert or sculpt a miniature? How to make a decent base or even a full diorama?!

It is my new conversion - wood elves dragon
I am thinking about sculpt nextwith some improvments and paint it for GD contest.

I was woesome when i saw that it got 7,6 points but now i see that it is better :)

That looks great. The details are great, and the pose and the idea of how to fit in onto a monster base are kewl.
But there are 2 negative things I have to tell you:
1) The seize looks weird. It may be the angle, but it looks extremely short to me.
2) you will have to do another one, as I want that one :D

in reality it's nice (although I still thing it's too fat)...
but there's no chanse to compare it to mr custodian terminator! 8)
