It is a poor craftsman that blames his tools.... But after having used my new Windor Newton Kolinski Sable brush i wonder is this is The Best Brush for painting minis.

1. What brands do you use? What do you use them for?

2. What sizes and shapes do you use? What do you use them for?

3. Has anyone tried any Sable brushes from AB Dick or another manufacturer?

Ok, so I will refresh this topic once again. I decided to leave my old brushes (Mag-Pol, and I`m not kiding:P) and I want to buy a new ones. But which to choose?

1. Does the famous line of W&N series 7 is so good and worth it`s price?
2. What other marks are good, especially for tiny freehands?
3. Which hair is better: natural or synthetical ?
4. How to keep brushes clean, mainly close to the ferrule?

Any ideas?

Synthetic brushes are not that good, as per my experience. Apart from their stiffness compared to natural ones, they tend to develop a little curve at the tip which is annoying.

Since I bought my first W&N Miniature Series brushes I almost only use those. They are really good, for me they were worth spending a bit more money. Some of the less known artistic brushes are also good, I have a lot of different brands (some names: Goya, Art Maker, Rotmarder). Also if you go to a modell shop, there is one brand of brushes to find here and worth mentioning: J. Perkins.

The main difference between the W&N and other natural artist burshes is the length of the hairs. The artistic brushes have normally longer hairs, while W&N brushes have shorter, thicker, conical hair which is better for exact and sharp painting.

I clean my brushes with a sort of soap, developed specifically for brush cleaning.

I bought my W&N brushes and the brush soap here: https://www.artsupplies.co.uk/
