I dont' really like those contests where the only rule is "enter anything you like", and the deadline is also quite short.

got your point, but I don't fully agree.
1. "enter anything" - actually there is a theme: winter. Reaper keeps their contests seasonal (winter, summer, helloween...), and sometimes they give a specific theme also (I remember "Born on July, 4th" theme). First cut is carried out by Reaper folks, and they pretty often value them ingredient higher than technical merits.
Also, is GD any different in regards to that matter?
2. deadline - after 2 rounds of IP a full month seems like a luxury  Seriously speaking, over 30 days is not that short for an online contest.

Anyway, I'm not complaining. I've met the deadline and my entry follows the theme pretty nicely :P

Well knowing this it would be easier to, let's say, start the entry for the spring contest early, right?
after 2 rounds of IP
What does this mean?

I'm not sure if there will be a spring contest.

IP - Iron Painter, painting contest held at Wyrd site. People are matched up in pairs, get a theme, and have 2 weeks to paint their entries. Entries are judged and the winner of every duel advances to the next round. New pairs are drawn randomly, new theme is set up and again - 2 weeks for painting, judging, winners advance.... there can be only one at the end...
Iron Painter 7 is now in progress, I lost my duel in the round 2. so, after painting Grom with his chariot in two weeks, and then the dragon in two weeks - 33 days deadline is soooo long ;)
