Painted Gardus Steel Soul and Knight Incantor Lead the Way!

Some time ago, we undertook an exciting project, painting a Stormcast force for Age of Sigmar. The first two miniatures define the style for this force were supposed to be painted Gardus Steel Soul and a painted Knight Incantor. Thanks to our artist, Benathai, these two stalwarts of the battlefield now stand proudly in their unique green and gold color scheme, ready to lead their force into the heart of battle.

Gardus Steel Soul: A Shining Beacon of Hope

Gardus Steel Soul, the revered Lord-Celestant of the Hallowed Knights, is a living symbol of hope. With his divine light, he leads his Stormcast Eternals war host to safeguard the innocents he’s pledged to protect. His runeblade and warhammer, together with his unyielding faith, make him a formidable force against the enemies of Order.

The miniature depicts Gardus mid-landing, projected from Azyr upon a Sigmarite thunderbolt, his war cloak billowing up behind him. The iconic image, inspired by Black Library novel Hallowed Knights: Black Pyramid, is well known. But as the customer requested a touch of customization, we converted the model. We used a different helmet to add a unique twist to the miniature, and we also gave him custom-made lightnings, enhancing the dynamic feel of his landing.

Knight Incantor: The Living Tempest

The Knight Incantor, a stormcaller gifted in summoning hurricane winds and gales of mystical energy, is a force to be reckoned with. His ability to channel energy into a raging hurricane or send crackling bolts of arcane power to smite those who defy Sigmar’s will makes him a formidable ally on the battlefield.

Our version of the Knight Incantor, like Gardus, received a unique helmet and custom-made lightnings, lending him an air of majesty and raw power. His green and gold colors provide an unusual but striking contrast, making him stand out on any battlefield.

Both Gardus Steel Soul and the Knight Incantor were painted by our artist Benathai, who put in a lot of effort to bring these characters to life. as they are the beginning of a larger force for Age of Sigmar that we’ll be painting in the future.

Painting Alai Bust from Galapagos Miniatures: My Ghostly, Spiritual Interpretation

I had the pleasure of painting the beautiful Alai bust from Galapagos Miniatures.

This 1:10 scale resin model caught my eye, and when a customer asked me to paint it, I couldn’t wait to get started.

I knew I wanted my interpretation to be unique. Something that would stand out from other versions of the model. In this blog post, I’ll take you through my creative process and share some insights into how I gave Alai a ghostly, spiritual feel.

Alai, the ghostly one

First: Converting Alai for a Unique Look

The first step in my creative process was to modify the model itself. I wanted to give Alai a weapon that would complement her ethereal appearance. I decided to replace the sword with a sickle that dissolves into a wind-blown smoke. This required designing and 3D printing the additional parts, which turned out just as I had imagined.

To further enhance the ghostly feel, I remodeled Alai’s hair to follow the flow of the smoke. This subtle change added a sense of movement and unity between the character and her weapon, creating a more cohesive and captivating appearance.

Second: Choice of Colors

When it came time to paint the bust, I opted for a limited palette of muted colors to emphasize the greenish parts of the model. I wanted the green to stand out, creating an otherworldly glow that would enhance the spiritual feel of the piece.

For Alai’s skin, I chose a pale, ghostly complexion to reinforce her immaterial presence. This color choice not only adds to the overall ambience but also emphasizes the character’s ethereal nature.

Third: Unseeing Eyes and a Haunting Presence

To further distinguish my interpretation of Alai, I decided to paint her eyes in a unique, web-eye style. This gives the impression that she is blind or unseeing, as if her mind and soul are wandering somewhere else. The haunting, absent look in her eyes adds an extra layer of depth and intrigue to the bust.

Final Thoughts on painting Alai Bust from Galapagos Miniatures

I am happy with the final result and the character I managed to create with this Alai bust. The ghostly, spiritual feel of the model and the modifications and color choices, make this piece one of my favorites.

You know I love taking on new challenges and bringing unique visions to life. I am open for commissions, so if you’re a collector looking for an experienced painter to bring your favorite busts to life, feel free to reach out to me. I’ll be more than happy to discuss your ideas and create a one-of-a-kind addition for your collection.

One day we’ve been having a chat with our Thymos.Theos about what he would like to paint, and his response was: Warhammer Underworlds warbands. And you know what, he painted quite a few, so you can enjoy them in the photos here.

Some of these were commissioned warbands, some may still be available for sale, and some were just personal projects.
But it’s a nice selection of painted Warhammer Underworlds warbands anyway. 🙂

Ghazghkull Thraka returns!

Ghazghkull Thraka, or Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka to name him properly, is one impressive miniature. The last time we showed one was in 2016, and since then a new version of the model has been released.

Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka
Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka

Ghazghkull Thraka is a legendary Ork Warlord who has terrorized the galaxy for centuries. He is known for his brutal tactics, cunning intellect, and unmatched strength on the battlefield. Ghazghkull has waged countless wars against the Imperium, other xenos races, and even his own kind in his quest for power and domination.

Ghazghkull first rose to prominence during the Third War for Armageddon, where he led a massive Ork Waaagh! against the Imperium. Despite the best efforts of the Imperial defenders, Ghazghkull was ultimately able to claim victory, cementing his reputation as one of the most fearsome warlords in the galaxy.

Since that time, Ghazghkull has continued to lead Ork Waaaghs! across the galaxy, gathering more and more followers to his cause. He is said to possess immense psychic power, which he uses to manipulate the minds of his enemies and even to control the battlefield itself.

Ghazghkull is a towering figure, standing well over ten feet tall and weighing several tons. He is heavily armored and armed with a variety of deadly weapons, including a massive power klaw that can crush even the toughest armor.

Despite his brutal reputation, Ghazghkull has a loyal following of Orks who see him as a savior figure, destined to lead the greenskins to glory and conquest. His name strikes fear into the hearts of his enemies, and his presence on the battlefield can often turn the tide of a battle in the Orks’ favor.

This version of Ghazghkull Thraka was painted by our artist Luke, and won him a bronze trophy in the Masters category of the Kontrast miniature painting competition in 2022.

We’ll be honored if this miniature encourages and inspires you to paint your own version. But if you feel like the task might be too much for you, you can always contact us about the painting service we provide.
