This time I met my fellow painters in Opole, so we could spend some time painting things for ourselves during the weekend. 🙂

Tym razem spotkałam się w Opolu  z kolegami-malarzami, żeby przez weekend pomalować coś dla siebie. 🙂

Our hosts

Krzysztof Kobalczyk and Michał Gmitrasiuk got us a good room for painting and allowed us to be their guests at their own places. So at the very moment I would like to thank Iwona and Tomek, who managed to survive the locus attack that we were. 😉 These two hearts are for you:

Painting

I managed to take a peek at Krzysztof Kobalczyk’s way of painting skin, Gimiak’s metallics, mix of grey with grey on Piotrek‘s models, and Kuba’s shading of white.

Udało mi się podejrzeć malowanie skóry w wydaniu Krzyśka Kobalczyka, metaliki Gimiaka, przeplatankę szarości z szarością na modelach Piotrka, a u Kuby cieniowanie bieli.

We painted for a day and a half, so in the meantime I snatched some paints from the boys, as I like to test new products.

Malowaliśmy pòłtora dnia, więc w przerwach podbierałam chłopakom farby, bo lubię wypróbowywać nowe rzeczy.

Back in Opole’s past!

The Kubuś milk bar is the best in Opole and we had some Silesian dumplings (a kind of potato dumplings) in one of the breaks – the attraction that Michał organized! Ambience of the Polish People’s Republic was still present there and we enjoyed it, even though the cutlery was not chained to tables. 😉

Bar mleczny Kubuś najlepszy w Opolu i kluski śląskie w przerwie – atrakcja zorganizowana przez Michała! Klimat PRL w dechę, choć obiecanych sztućców na łańcuchu nie było 😉

Now Piotrek feels he can bear the burden of organizing the next meeting in Wrocław. 😉

Just a few days ago I had a great pleasure of meeting 5 Polish painters and spending a full miniature painting weekend together in Wiśniczówka.

Miałam ogromną przyjemność spotkać się na wspólnym malowaniu w plenerze z 5 polskimi malarzami w Wiśniczówce.

The meeting took place in my family region, so I did the honors of a host. 😀 Potato cakes for breakfast and no fingers lost thanks to my mom paying attention, hehe.

Spotkanie odbyło się w moich rodzinnych stronach, więc czyniłam honory gospodyni. 😀 Na śniadanie placki ziemniaczane – obyło się bez utraty palców, dzięki czuwającej mamie, hehe.

Socializing

And just like it should be the case with such meetings, we started with a bonfire party, and the next day we wondered if we didn’t go blind after all the (…) “because it’s impossible that all of us can only see sooooo badly”.

Jak to z plenerem bywa, rozpoczęliśmy od integracji przy ognisku, a następnego dnia zastanawialiśmy się czy czasem nie oślepliśmy od (…) “bo to przecież niemożliwe, żebyśmy wszyscy tak słaaaaaabiutko widzieli”.

And this is what painters look like after an evening of socializing. 😀

So we decided to waste some time before our sight returned. 😉 There was some Polish cuisine, bikes, forest and tossing Captain America’s shield. 😉

Postanowiliśmy zanim więc wzrok nam wróci do normy, słodko przemarnować czas. 😉 Była więc polska kuchnia, rowery, las i rzucanie tarczą Kapitana Ameryki. 😉

Loler’s frisbee released our superpowers and so: HerrKuba threw with Hulk’s strength, Kasia dodged the whirling shield with cat-like grace, and Redav saved us from trouble, tossing the shield with Superman’s charm.

Frisbee Lolera wyzwoliło w nas super moce i tak: HerrKuba rzucał z siłą Hulka, Kasia – jak Kot – z wdziękiem unikała wirującej tarczy, Redav ratował nas z opresji, rzucając z wdziękiem Supermana.

Being a superhero has its merits as one can sit down and paint miniatures with their pals when not saving the world!

Bycie Superbohaterem ma swoje dobre strony, można w przerwach od ratowania świata zasiąść z kumplami i pomalować figurki!

Painting

My dear friends allowed me to paint with their paints, so I tested some brands that I never had a chance to try before. 🙂 I even held a little “Miss White” contest. The jury was: I and mr. Airbrush Thinner, who wasn’t very talkative.

Dobrzy koledzy pozwalali mi malować swoimi farbami, więc potestowałam sobie firmy których wcześniej nie miałam okazji wypróbować. 🙂 Zrobiłam nawet konkurs: “Miss Bieli”. W składzie sędziowskim byłam ja i małomówny Airbrush Thinner.

All of them qualified for the contest, but only three deserved to be awarded:

1. Vallejo is thick as some kind of toothpaste. The pigment is fine and it keeps its color even after dillution. I needed to add more airbrush thinner to it than to others, which was something I liked about it.
2. The Army Painter Warpaints one had fine pigment, wasn’t too thin and didn’t lose its color too quickly when dilluted.
3. Createx Airbrushcolors turned out to be just as good.

Do konkursu zakwalifikowała się każda, ale na wyróżnienie zasłużyły tylko 3 z nich:

1. Vallejo jest w konsystencji gęsta jak pasta do zębów. Pigment  drobny, a przy rozrzedzaniu długo zachowuje barwę. Musiałam do niej dodać więcej rozcieńczalnika do aerografu niż do pozostałych. Co mi się osobiście podobało.
2. The Army Painter Warpaints miała drobny pigment, nie była zbyt rzadka i przy rozrzedzaniu nie traciła zbyt szybko barwy.
3. Createx Airbrushcolors okazał się równie świetny.

White paints from P3, Citadel and Scale Color didn’t seem to be as good in comparison with the previously mentioned ones, but I was told the Scale Color paint was not a good representation of this brand as it was a faulty one.

I took several paints from Redav to try the Scale Color brand and painting with them was really great.

Marnie przy nich wypadła biała z P3, Citadel i Scale Color, choć ponoć ta ostatnia nie zbyt nadawała się do reprezentacji ­ – ponoć wadliwy egzemplarz.

Kilka farb podebrałam Redavowi do spróbowania ze Scale Color i malowało się nimi extra.

I liked the matt finish and intensity of colors… I need to have and test them with my painting. I may be joking that I will start painting as neatly as Redav thanks to them, but after these workshops I can see that this precision and clean painting are a matter of his personality.

Podobała mi się matowość i intensywność barw… muszę mieć i przetestować u siebie. Mogę sobie żartować, że zacznę dzięki nim malować tak starannie jak Redav, ale po tych warsztatach widzę, że ta staranność wynika z jego osobowości.

But he showed me how he paints wool textures. Loler showed his own method of painting leather surfaces (not surprisingly, a fast one). Kasia didn’t mind peeking at her working, and she paints in a way completely different to mine… but elaborating on what you could learn from these five painters and how much you would gain from such meeting is much like trying to talk about scents. For me this meeting was a serious benefit, although I didn’t manage to paint much myself but I saw many things and tested quite a few as well. I hope I managed to return the favor and give just as much to the others.

Ale pokazał mi jak maluje tkaniny wełniane. Loler pokazał mi za to swój sposób na skórzane powierzchnie (oczywiście szybki). Kasia dawała się podejrzeć, a maluje inną techniką… ale rozwlekanie się na temat tego czego mogli byście się nauczyć od tej piątki i ile byście wyciągnęli z takiego spotkania, to trochę jak opowiadanie o zapachach. Dla mnie to spotkanie to mnóstwo korzyści, choć sama nie wiele zmalowałam to wiele rzeczy podejrzałam i wypróbowałam. Mam nadzieję że umiałam się odwdzięczyć i dałam drugie tyle w zamian.

Aftermath

I returned home refreshed and motivated, but I keep missing Dexter’s experience at airbrushing, KaHa’s dark visions… glad that there’s no Loler next to me, because the guy paints so fast that it’s really irritating.

Odświeżona i zmotywowana wróciłam do domu, ale brakuje mi przy aerografowaniu doświadczenia Dextera, mrocznych wizji Kahy… pozostaje mi się cieszyć, że nie ma obok mnie Lolera ­ – skubaniec maluje wyścigowo. Irytujące.

I’ve just reviewed what I typed and the conclusion is clear – I am suffering from withdrawal syndrome. Such meetings must be strongly addictive.  So I suggest that you stay away from them – they’re Satan’s trap! 😉

Prześledziłam wzrokiem co spisałam i wniosek jest oczywisty. Przechodzę syndrom odstawienia, najwidoczniej takie spotkania są silnie uzależniające. Radzę Wam trzymajcie się od takich spotkań z daleka, to są szatańskie sidła! ;­-)
