endrem's WiPs

Post by endrem »

I thought I had one of these threads too, but I couldn't find. So here it is, I think it's time for me to start one, too. Over in the Dystopian Wars thread I saw the new releases, that brought me to the idea to start posting my progress with my Covenant of Antarctica army. I bought them on the Hamburger Tactica event about 3 weeks ago, I just could not resist :D

So here are some initial pictures, nothing painted yet:

I decided to build in magnets to all turrets and into the Aristotle Class Battleship, which can submerge into water and then only the upper part stays over water. There is a marker for this as well where you can put the upper part of the ship inside. This way I can remove it and use it submerged as well. (The marker is visible on the third picture, right side; laser cut silhouette of the ship)

All of them prepped, next step is basecoating.

I have to add a little story. I had my flying bases from the starter box missing and one of the turrets had a big bubble in it, so I wrote Spartan Games about this. They were really friendly and helpful and sent me the missing parts without additional costs. Thanks again for that.

Other than that the minis are of very good quality, I had to clean the edges a bit and that was basically it. No bubbles, no mold lines, very fine detail. Since I don't have a decent digicam right now, I made the pics with my mobile. They are OK, but the detail is not that good. Hardly can wait painting them.

So I was doing some research and saw some fun razzle dazzle camouflage patterns from the World Wars and thought I try to achieve something similar. I tried some color combination and pattern ended up with this:

Since this was only an experiment I did not apply any shading and wasn't too careful and the paint chipped off.

Then I applied a layer of VMC Grey Green on most of my ships:

Exception is the flying fortress, I didn't start painting it yet.

Painting the camouflage pattern on the frigates:

The basecoat is unfortunately uneven at some places, but I decided not to strip it. These are gonna be game pieces after all.

Sure. I'm trying to batch paint them, so one step at a time. First the pattern, then details, some shading, etc. We'll see. I don't usually batch paint, this is the first time I try :)

Can I ask you to do me a favour?
Could you please write an article about painting your force? I think Mahon would gladly post it on main page

Why I am asking for this? I know few people who have Dystopian Wars armies, but play with them unpainted. Or even don't play it, because of being unpainted! The reason is they don't know how to paint them, because they are so different from normal miniatures. From what I can see now you are doing very well. I think such article would really help them a lot.
