Mephiston - Lord of Death!

Post by Tommie Soule »

Welcome to my latest commission piece.

The brief was 'nmm' style red armour like the blue and gold i've done and a glowing green effect on the plasma pistol and sword like the stuff Dave Neild (ijee) has done.
put on a base inspired by more bits from Dave Neild (ijee).

As usual i pushed this to beyond this basic brief by adding both subtle and blatant freehands on Mephiston himself And stained glassed ruined cathederal style base. This idea came from looking at some awesome Mark Gibbons art from the 2nd ed Angels of death codex and Mephistons personal back banner, given as a gift to him, from the latest Blood Angels Codex.
The base hold one of my favourite 'gimmiks' which is the the handles which you handle the model by so grubby fingers don't touch the models paint job. These handles are diguised as the cableing running through the superstructure of the cathederals foundations.

Any questions? just drop me a line :)

Very nice contrasting colors it really makes the mini Pop up to the eye... I like the red color on the armor and since I'm going to paint some reds soon what colors did you use for the red armor?

nice paintjob! some really great looking elements like face, brownish robe or vials.
not sure about the sword (too striking colours, steals the show), banner (out of place here, style is not coherent with the rest of the mini) and freehanded purple skulls (they make him look like wearing kids clothes with skull pattern).

anyway, well done sir!

Agree with the previous comment, the overall paintjob is nice and clean, but the sword is just "too much". This color is too harsh, even though the execution is great. I especially like the tone you achieved on the robe. Reds are also cool, if you could give some pointers how you make these, that'd be great.

you alrdy know moust things s i will add :
mini + base is (supous to be ) whole in this case we got mini , we got base , end we got this catedral wall element - they are all separated - try next time to "meld" parts together to create more coohorent effect

besidethat nice clean painting

chaos black. liche purple, mechrite red, scab red, red gore, blood red, space wolf grey.
start with a mix of mechrite and scab. gaze down to the darker mixes and up to the lighter.
never use pure colour except on the final SWG highlights

I agree completely in hindsight. i may go back and wash out some of the colours while i still have the piece in hand.

also my light and camera has added yellow into the images at some stage on finer analysis. An improvement to be made i never noticed till you guys flagged it!

Thank you!!

I'd go either for something lightening blue, to make some contrast but stay in something "usual" or I'd go for a ruby one, to have a global color on the whole mini, but that's just me cause I really like the green version ^^
