Bloody Ork Nob

I've had this box of Nobz sitting in my lad mountain for over a year and finally decided to paint one up. I'll be entering him in a competition at my LHS tomorrow morning- grand prize is a copy of the new Space Marine game. I wasn't really interedted in this game until I read a review of it over at Ars Technica- now I really want to win!

I tried to do a lot of new things with this guy. The skin was rushed, but I did the bet I could on it- tried to really emphasize the face by picking out the scars and going extreme with the highlighting.

All of the metal is painted over an under layer of rust. I used liquid latex masking to help me get the rusted look. I also used a few washes of VMC smoke (love that stuff) to dirty up the brighter metals and make the leater look worn.

Went with a camo pattern for the pants- just felt like the right touch for this guy.

For the bloody strings and blood effects I used Water Effects. I had to use fishing line as a structure for the strings. I mixed the water effects with a mixture of some old GW red ink, blood red, and scorched brown- it was a streaky mixture so that different tones would show. Once they dried I came back with very dillute black ink on the thickest spots of the blood and then a general, but still very dillute, wash of chestnut ink. The saliva is pure water effects over a very small fishing line structure.

I hate that the writing isn';t showing up in these pics- the look good in RL. The gum has "BooM" on the smaller plate, "CLAW" is on the power claw, and there's a little red arrow pointing up on the power box, and on the top section is the word "ON."

best way to c if contrast is enught is to swich photo to grey scale
afterthis you will c that mini sqig is just flat end only contrast on him is in color red / green - actualy all reds are flat
controary to green wich is quite good same as straps end other belts
this work is univen it got good parts with dynamic light end clors end totaly flat areas

as for gaming pice of mini is above average end realy good 1 , but for serious painting comp in wich would competite not gamers but painters thats is not enught good
but i wish you luck :)

Blood kinda comes off looking like engine lube. a bit gooey I think. Blood runs if it's still red.

wow, nice camo on the tousers, good choice of colors and visible contrasts.
I think some more separation of details with very fine darklining might be a good choice now. you can paint, now you should improve the sharpness of your painting.

Aren't the pictures a bit overexposed? Or is it just me?
This tricks my eyes a little, because the pics don't show any blacks and seem to be a bit on the pale side.
