Chest of Colors forum

Well the start of this year also marks the start of me trying to develop my culinary skills. I've already gotten pretty good at risotto, pastas and sushi so i decided to start trying my hand at pie making. Using only water, butter and flour for the dough and fruit fillings for now i'm trying to make at least one a week.

The first attempt the pastry was too crumbly and i overcooked the base during the baking blind phase. The filling itself was pretty good, however there was not enough dough so i had to make strips across the top.

The dough came out better this time, but i think i put too much filling in so it kinda burst the top off a little. Still it does taste quite yummy and i sprinkled sugar on the top so it tasted nice.

After working through, i found out once it was too late that i need to add a bit more water hence why my dough is so crumbly and it dries out a little too much like biscuits. Still i added some cinnamon to the filling and it does taste nice. Next version will be better yet.

I finally got the dough to a consistency which i like working with and tastes great, but i didn't cook it quite long enough and the filling was overcooked so was quite runny. I'll get it right soon enough ! Mark 2 had the best filling so I'm going to try and combine the great filling with Mark 4's dough ! watch this space for Mark 5

can't say much about the taste (and I regret I can't) but visually they're definitely a good proof of your artistic skills
