Hi, my nickname is DariusZero and I'm from Slovenia. I'm a bit older than probably most of you - I'm on the wrong side of 40', and that is not the only strange thing about me, the other is that I like to watch and paint small figurines and sometimes I even play with them. OMG, this sounds even worse then I ever dreaded it would sound. So, here I am with the rest of the the bunch.
I've been collecting minis for about a decade allready, but I have ever only played some games of WFB and 40k with my son, who is now turning to 15, and is less and less interested in gaming with them. But we ( we have each our own collections) have amassed quite some few of GW, Rackham, AoW minis.
Since I'm a visual artist by proffesion ( times are bad for any art right now, though), I'm inclined to have some properly painted collection of my minis, since this is turning into a painting hobby, anyway. I couldn't just sell them, I will rather keep them as a collection, I like them to much (nooooo, I'm a geek).
I have looked through the works of some of the members, and damn, you are all so fricking good! I don't even want ever to be on your level, It would be amission impossible. (Also my sight is NOT getting better).
So, I will try to lift my skills not on a GD level but a level decent enough for an expert mini collector.

Cheers, Darius

Welcome to a fun place ^^ and just enjoy the hobby !

Oh as for the eyesight thing, i'd recommend a lamp with a magnifying glass. Good lighting around you will help maintain the health of your eyes. :)

Thanx guys for the warm welcome, I appreciate it. That idea about the magnifying lamp is not bad....I'll see if I can get it locally, thou it will probably take me some time.

hello!

some people warned that such lamps can make your eyes tired easily. it's somehow more difficult to coordinate eye-to-hand through magnifying glass.

another option is something called optivisor. often used by jewellers and watchmakers. because the glass/lenses are in fixed position in relation to your eye, it's easier for eyes to get used to it - just like glasses.

Hello DariusZero!

You know, first of all - painting miniatures is a great fun, so if You don't want to be a super-uber-propainter, that's Your choice and that's all. Everyone enjoy painting and collecting miniatures in its own way :)

Have fun here!

Thanx for this information, I will have a look for that as well.......... But I guess I shouldn't forget to take it off before I go to the bedroom of my wife. Otherwise she would probably want to divorce me.

Thanx, Tomaz - your nick name is so common name in Slovenia, that I was sure you are fom there as well. :)
..and yeah Slovenia is nice, especially if you are a naturelover, lots of places to hike and climb. Bled is very popular among the locals too, I go there at least every other month, just to sip a capuccino wtih the view of the castle and the lake. But Bohinj is even better. Do you know they filmed Chronicles of Narnia in Slovenia because of the beauty of the nature sites?

Anyway thanx and cheers.
