HEEELP! Painting grey power armour

Post by Slawek »

OK so I painted something like 4-5 of my SM Relictors. I was using Codex gray with some highlits from mixing a codex gray with skull white. I try to make a blending from dark (codex gray with chaos black) to light coulor (skull white with codex gray). That give them some dirty look...
My highlight wasnt extreme... All I can say THAT DIDNT WORK :banghead:

I want something more effective. I want to make a pretty, catching eye army. PLEASE HELP ME DO THAT!!! I beg you

So what kind of secret technics should I use... I will be asking that question till I receive some kind of super answer. The future of my army looks depends on that

Here you have a colour sheme for my army

I would go for Codex grey --> White transition with black glaze all over, or Codex Grey + Black --> White.
Such strong highlighting wil be eye catching but may be not very simple to do well.

And use some dark brown wash (several thinned layers) to build-up the effect of dirt...

But will be that good on table top? I mean it should looks great on photos. But how would be army look as a whole...I try to this what you suggest Codex grey --> White transition with black glaze all over because I was already trying the second method and the effect was not so good

I hope you will give me an example of relictors painting in the near future

If someone have some other suggestions (not necessary close related to presented picture) pls give me

I painted a prototype BT a LONG while ago:

but I decided that you can't make them look eyecatching in an army. I thought about doing a lot of white shoulder pads and red insignias, like the BT-crosses and the boarders of the shoulderpads...I dunno if that helps, but oh well :D I'd say make the weapons red? at least I thought they look good as a contrast to the black.

But maybe you know a better way?

Is there any Citadel equivalent of
Vallejo German Grey
Vallejo Dark Grey
Vallejo Light Grey ???

if I were You I'd use mainly bleached bone highlights; skull white it very striking color after all so imo it should be layed only on very eges, imitating reflecting light...
