Hello,

I'm currently painting some Blood Angel Space Hulk minis, but want to build a small force about 1500 points sometime. But first of all I'd like to improve my painting skills and build a really nice small army. I've followed the white dwarf masterclass article mostly:

and one I'm currently working on:

Ok, the pictures are a little bit old and I painted the details I've forgotten and fixed a few "errors". Which bothers me a little bit are the bases... I wanted to replace them with some Space Hulk bases from dragon forge and bought a few of them: https://dragonforge.com/Painting%20servi ... h-deck.htm. But now I found Scibor's great ancient ruins bases and bought a few too: https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/bases/scibor-bases. I think they are really really great, but I can't decide which ones to use. I think I prefer Scibor's bases, because then, my figures really will "stand out" on the gaming table, if I ever get a small force together ;-)

regards,
johannes

Nice set of minis, they are a good quality for gaming with. I think for me the scibor bases always stood out much more than most other bases without being too far fetched or weird. Have you considered magnetising the models to the bases so that you can still use them with space hulk? But i have to admit it was a bit strange of GW to make such weird bases for these minis.

I think I have to work on the black highlights once I've finished all terminators and the black cloak of Seargent Lorenzo bothers me too ;-)

Hm, magnetizing, I don't know, I think I would need very small magnets for the feets, but I think I'll definately use scibor's bases :-)

Now I've used matt varnish on the almost finished guys, but is it ok to fix some things afterwards? I think if I'll spend some further time on glazing and a few things, so that they will also possibly become some "bad" :D :D haha, showcase miniatures ;-)

Well ok, I'd like to improve my painting skills and I think I'm currently painting at my limits, but when it comes to glazing I think a big factor is how much time one likes to spend on it, I don't think that there's a special "secret" or so and I'd like to spend some further time when I've finished all terminators :-)

Another thing which bothers me is Seargent Lorenzo's cloak, which is black with a few grey highlights, but it looks terrible, maybe it's also the color black, but I currently don't know which other color would be great...

You can always paint over varnish, i do it often especially on metal models as the paint is so easily rubbed off. I think getting better at painting is more practice and just getting the basics down first, i know ever since i decided on becoming a better painter the one thing which i have always tried to get better at is the blending. Just trying to get super smooth blends and get a comfortable way of doing it so that i can do it consistently.

Personally when i painted him, i used a brown cloak

Brown works pretty well with red, but so does a white. I think what you might want to try is grab a photo of his back and use a graphics editor and just colour it to see what takes your fancy. That way you don't have to experiment on the model.
