Chest of Colors forum

So, I've decided to practice my skills at miniature painting, and I've started of from scraps a couple of months ago buying a package of cadian shock troops.
And well, I'm quite sure I've gotten better since then.
I'm going to continue painting warhammer 40k models and would like all the input, good or bad, that I can get.

And a WG-comissar with boltgun. Which my biggest problem were that the coat of chaos black (from a spray can) started falling of when I were painting, so that's my first question, why did it?

I can provide more pictures if someone wants but for now I've gotta go.

First of all - posting 3.5MB pictures - bad idea - resize them end compres a litle (90%) to be more siutable

ok about your question
that mey be caused by 2 things
1 - have you washed your mini with soap ?? if not they mey stay some "oil" from casting on the mini (wich is commom on GW minis) so omly car promers will hold to such surface (end not iven them wil do it in 100%)

2 - eny spray reqire good shaking before aplicatuiion end especialy primers - no jocking about 2 minutes of shaking if they lay clame for longer time

about painting .. well i would advise try not use so much Dry brush instade clean lolors + borders

(ther is nothing bad in Dry brush - but according to my knowlege dry brush - a good 1 is harder then plain colors + borders so Dry brush is more advenced tech then clean paint + liining so first should be whire/black lining )

Well, GW Chaos Black isn't really a primer, is it?

ther are actualy special priming paints .. end thous usualy are completly worthles to paint minis - thous are strictly primers

as a promets a GW fundacion paints works to .. butthat reqire a practice

If you get a Flikr account when you upload those monster images it'll scale them down for you, and give you the BBcode needed to post to the forums.

Also, I strongly recommend you get a copy of GIMP. It's free, and it'll do everything you need to make the pictures good for direct post to the web. There are an infinite number of good tutorials on how to use the program. I keep meaning to write a GIMP for mini painters article, but I've not yet gotten around to it. GIMP works as well (and in some ways better than) in Windows as it does in Linux.

All I ever do with photos is adjust levels, unsharp mask, and then crop and scale them down.

Couple of minor things (not paint related)...

Image size as previously stated is way too big, I like big pictures so wouldn't have a major problem with them except your using Imageshask to host them, this is agonisingly slow to load and you should look at using Photobucket as it's free and fast.

Secondly you need to up the F-Stop on your camera so your whole mini is in focus and not just the front edge, anything above F8 will work much better than what you used on those pictures (only looked at the first one as it took too long).

Oh and those look like WIP images and not finished showcase images, sorry.

A nice tabletop mini but not display standard yet, i think my issue always has been drybrushing an entire model. I always find that most people when they drybrush the results look very untidy and rushed almost, i prefer smoother paint textures and blending rather than streaky feel. Some of the edges could be tidy like the bottom edge of where the plasma core is on the model, just some simple badab black wash would help sort that out, or if you have a steady hand just use some black paint. Not a bad start now and i think the will to take in criticism and comments are one of the first steps into becoming a better painter, so good start there now show us some more models

I thought that F8 would work (I'm quite sure I used it on both models) but I can try to up it, but I already had some problems with my camera mount not being that stable so I got some motion blur. I'll see what I can do to get more of them in focus. And, is flikr ok to use?

I tried to use less drybrushing yesterday but weren't that happy with the look, I'll give it another shot when I get home from school today. Hopefully I can post some better looking pictures of better looking minis.

Here's the latest plasmagunner, tried to not use any dry brushing, but the first layer on the pants were already done with a quite dry brush.
The wash for the green armour got a bit to much purple in it and I tried to do some highlighting.
