Sorry for popping this in the wrong bit of the forum earlier... It's been a while since I've been on forums and stuff, I forgot how anoying that kind of thing can get lol :D

Anyway, this is the General of my Vampire Counts army... started him a few weeks back. Its converted from a GW Winged Vampire Lord ... But I hated the huge wing and the Fugly head, so chopped the wing off, sculpted a shoulder pad (the arms from a marine I had lying around), and scupltd a head for him...

I'm enjoying doing him so far. Although I did have problems with some of the sculpting (eg eyes are hard for me).. I also sculpted a head which he will be holding in his off hand, although it now has hair and an arm attached to it lol (I'll try and take some more photos of the head, I'm just painting it at the moment)

This is one of the first projects I've started since 2005, so I'm a bit rusty, but in some ways have suprised myself, so all in all I'm quite happy 8)

I was just admiring this in the Mantic thread, I'm really impressed with the tones and skin particularly.

Soon you will learn that we don't have wrong forum sections here, no off-topic is wrong or too long...
... unless the thread's author objects. (they rarely do)

Generally: why cut an enjoyable conversation? :D

It's just that posting in a 'wrong' forum can only give you less responses or make it more difficult for people to find the topic. And that's more or less this...

As for your painting:
For somebody who's re-learning to paint you are quite good.
;)

OK, seriously now. The vampire is going to be awesome. I mean it. I hated the original model and you just fixed it, saved it. That's a good model now and a well painted as well.

I love the sharp and well defined paintjob on his face. Well, generally on his whole skin, but the face is so full of expression!
The tiny details like the patterns on his armor add so much to this paintjob, that it is surely going to be an excellent sight for somebody who can hold the mini in their hands.

For now the least impressive part is the gold NMM. Not that it is bad, because it is not at all, but the other parts are so good that the NMM doesn't impress me much. Maybe adding some reflections of different surrounding colors in the shaded parts of the NMM would make it deeper and more sophisticated?

Good luck with this project. I am looking forward for more!

as Mahon sed .. Gold looks not to impresive but skin is awesome - whana sher the recipe ??

about gold ... it partialy looks like lether ... but should be metalic end more reflective.. wich means sharper transicions .. (i think so ... )

Yeah the gold... You know when you paint something and it looks really really amazing and you are dead happy with how it came out; then you look at it a few days later and think... Oh wait, it's not as nice as I thought? lol
I was thinking about just re-doing all the gold nmm.. All depends if I can get it done in time for the 16th :( We'll see...
I was happy with the skin though, I used 1:1 mix of Dwarf Flesh and Shadow grey as a base, then built up the highlighting with Dwarf Flsh, then Mixing Bleached Bone with the DF, and then Finally White! Then used some GW brown ink (ogryn flesh I think) in some of the recesses! The paints have changed since I painted last as well (I had all the older GW paints, which I'd had for years, although I do really like GW foundation paints), so I'm finding getting the mixes right a pain sometimes.. Suppose it'll get better the more I paint...
The tat's were done with a mix of black and shadow grey, and given 2 very very watered down coats of bleached bone to stop them looking too harsh. I'm liking tattoos at the moment!

I like this alot too it's going really well, the sword is very sharp and well defined. For me the gold nmm has too much midtone colour in it and you've highlight every single edge with a white border, if i was going for a slightly more realistic NMM i'd only white line the edges where i think the light would hit.
